Hugo Weaving Says He’s Not Signed for THE HOBBIT Yet

hugo_weaving_elrond_hobbit_01.jpgLast week we were happy to report that director Guillermo del Toro had signed actor Hugo Weaving to reprise the role of Elrond in the upcoming two-part adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s “The Hobbit”.  This was big news - especially to Hugo Weaving.

While promoting his upcoming film “Last Ride”, Weaving spoke to Moviehole and said “I haven’t actually talked to anyone about it. Doesn’t mean I won’t be doing it, [I'm] just not onboard yet.”  Weaving went on to say that he’s “really excited that [Del Toro] is directing. He’s a fantastic choice - an absolutely wonderful choice, just brilliant. It’d be good to get back together with Andy Serkis and Ian McKellan, and whoever else comes back…”

So this is where we stand - it looks like Weaving is definitely ready to come onboard. And its obvious that del Toro wants him onboard - if they could just merge their mutual desires via some sort of electronic communication I’m sure that all would swiftly be put to right… may I suggest Twitter?

Can’t we just assume the casting will happen eventually and stop obsessing about this? Weaving and Del Toro are currently busy working on or promoting other projects… and Weaving is an infamous Luddite who doesn’t carry a cellphone, never mind conduct business on Twitter. ;) I’m sure that once The Hobbit is officially cast and underway, WETA, Peter Jackson et al will keep fans updated with their usual thoroughness… but he project won’t begin filming until next year. Be patient, everyone!
