Warner Bros. Planning to Make LORD OF THE RINGS Blu-Ray Announcement in a Few Weeks?

Steve just gave me a call from the Warner Bros. “Watchmen” and “300″ Blu-Ray event (he says both films look amazing) and he spoke with a source at Warner Bros. who gave him a VERY interesting piece of news:
In a few weeks, Warner Bros. is planning to make an annoucement about their plans for a Blu-Ray release of BOTH the Theatrical and Extended Editions of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. You may now begin cheering or cursing depending on whether or not you own a Blu-Ray player.
So what’s in a few weeks? Why the wait? Why not tell us NOW, dammit?! Oh wait. A few weeks. It’s that Comic-Con? Hmmm…
How much do you think this will cost? Are these the films that will finally push you to get a Blu-Ray player? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!

YES PLZ
Well that’s sort of good news, as wasn’t the last info saying that they would do a BD theatrical release then later do the extended editions.
Since I already have 2 of 3 extended, not sure if I would buy them in BD maybe I’ll get the one I dont have on BD and then decide if I want the others in BD.
that’s… not a bad idead. as for me I’m tooootally getting every edition of these movies that come out!!!!
I think it’s high time I got a blu-ray player. That and an HDTV.
I’m holding out until Buckaroo Banzai on Blu-ray.
I will not buy the theatrical versions
I will wait for the extended cuts on Blu-ray. I double dipped the first time around when the trilogy was released on DVD and don’t want to do that again.
Now bring on the Star wars saga to Blu please.
There has been a tremendous and very vocal backlash on Amazon to the announcement that only the theatrical version of LOTR would be released in blu ray.
Hundreds of potential customers rated it a ONE star purchase and were nearly unanimous in stating that they would NOT be buying this package and resented the greedy, double-dipping market strategy being employed by Warner in only releasing the theatrical version.
And, frankly, I agreed with them. I hope this news is true. Maybe the backlash helped to change Warner’s mind about this issue. To release ONLY the theatrical version is really a slap across the face to the fans who have supported this franchise. Blu ray media could easily hold both versions AND all the extras.
We’ll see.
Thank you for the news. I appreciate it.
The extended editions will surely get me to invest in a Blu-ray player, but the theatrical version will not find a way into my home!
seriously, I can’t stand this internet whining. First all, its only double dipping if they don’t tell you about it ahead of time, which, I must say, they have always done with this series. And it’s only double dipping if you buy them! No one is putting a gun to your head. Second, they’re only releasing theatrical versions, at the moment! I personally, rather they didn’t try to cram both versions one disc, via branching. That can cause problems on some players, and King, at 4 hours, will surely suffer in picture quality. To me, anything that compromises the best possible picture quality and sound is the true disservice to the fans. So, stop with the outrage over nothing, when what we’re really talking about is a need for instant gratification. I want both versions, I love both versions.
I’m glad they’re annoucing they’re exact plans, but don’t expect both versions out this fall. More than likely, the extendeds won’t be out till The Hobbit is finished. Which I’m fine with. Once Jackson has time to get everything in order.
Look out for the 3D juggernaut. Blueray is inevitably going to be superceded with 3D for home viewing. The big industry players are thrashing out a disc format right now. Maybe people should wait to see if The Hobbit comes out in 3D (as predicted on MarketSaw) and then they will inevitably convert the trilogy to 3D (also predicted on MarketSaw). Then buy yourself the 3D extended edition box set of all five films and dont bother buying a Bluray player unless they can guarantee it will play the 3D stuff as well (for that matter try to buy a flat screen TV that is 3D compatible). Once you see Avatar in 3D you will want to get a home 3D theatre setup when it becomes affordable.
I just bought a Blu Ray this weekend and watched The Incredible Hulk today. If that movie looks that fantastic I can’t imagine how good LOtR is going to look. I can’t wait for November to get here!!!
3D sux, like I want to watch a movie wearin those stupid friggin glasses …
I’will not buy theatrical version! If it’s possible to realese extended on BD now, which IS, as I read, that’s a slap across my face!
PEOPLE! Don’t waste your money!
