After subjecting us all to “I Am Legend” and apparently making no headway with the unwanted prequel for that film, Francis Lawrence and Will Smith may pair up again for the fantastical drama, “The City That Sailed” according to THR.

Written by Andrew Niccol, the story follows a New York City street magician whose daughter, because of family circumstances (read: Daddy likes the whores), lives in England. In exploring a lighthouse one day, the girl discovers a room with magic candles and wishes to be reunited with her father, causing the island of Manhattan to break away and drift across the Atlantic, the magic candles apparently not having access to priceline.com or any comparable service.  I guess the other option is that she could just walk across…if it’s not too deep.

This project will join the TWENTY-ONE others that Smith currently has in development although at this time he’s got nothing actively in development, which would be a problem except he’s Will Smith, the only movie star alive.  No one else can open a movie on their name alone.  And he could circle a hundred projects and whichever one he chose would get made because any studio would fund any project as long as he was the star.  The entire movie could just be Will Smith fucking zoo animals and the studio would still open it on the July 4th weekend.  But hey, as long as it isn’t that “Old Boy” remake he’s planning to do with Steven Spielberg, I’m happy.

Thank god they’re not making Old Boy anymore.
