Steve’s Quick Thoughts on GREEN LANTERN Casting - Justin Timberlake, Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper

Has this ever happened? Has a studio told everyone who they were thinking about casting on the front page of Variety or The Hollywood Reporter and then opened it up to public debate? Cause that’s what they did for “Green Lantern”, and it’s kind of shocking. According to the Reporter, the holding deal on all three actors expired Monday, which means they have to pick someone quick. Also, the article says the studio, producer Donald De Line, and director Martin Campbell each had a different choice.

So this is where you come in. Since they couldn’t reach a consensus, they’ve opened it up to the fans and online community. Which is crazy. They’ve pretty much raised their hands and said we give up. We can’t decide. Whatever the fans think is how we’re going to go. So if you have an opinion on the three actors up for the role, I’d leave a comment. You know the studio is spending the weekend reading every site so make your voice heard. Of the three, I’d take Ryan or Bradley. I just wish there was a 4th actor as neither seems like the perfect pick. That’s probably why they can’t decide…

      Timberlake can't act, so dump him.
      Reynolds already has Deadpool coming, so he's out.
      Cooper has the acting chops, and a good enough look, so I vote for him.

      It has got to be Bradley Cooper, though I think Justin actually can tell a very good story through a performance, as we've seen in Alphadog. Cooper has the stature of a super hero. Reynolds is Deadpool.

      I would prefer Nathan Fillion, as would most people. As could be seen from my trailer.

      If you have to choose one of these...Ryan Reynolds would do better than Bradley Cooper, but there is so much confusion over which superhero Reynolds is...so Cooper i guess.

      I won't even consider Justin for this. Girl voice. Too frail looking. I like him as an actor though.

      Cooper or Reynolds would be fine. I wish Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Nathan Fillion were in the running though.

      Dump Timberlake. I can't believe he's even being suggested.

      Any news on studio interest in Nathon Fillion? Wasn't there some movement on this (even as reported by Fillion himself), especially after Jaron Pitts' pretty darn intriguing trailer?

      I vote for Bradley Cooper, but my top three picks would be Tim Daly, Nathan Fillion or Peter Krause.

      I'd be fine with any of the three. I loved Cooper on "Alias", but he was a bit of a non-entity in "The Hangover". I still think he's got a ton of potential, though. Reynolds seems like he should be busy with "Deadpool". While I'm sure that Timberlake also has a lot of acting potential, I'm not sure I want to read headlines like HAL JORDAN'S GOT HIS DICK IN A BOX for the next two years.

      Cooper's the choice here, but I'm cool with either one.

      I want Nathan Fillion. If it's just the three, I would go for Bradley Cooper. Ryan is Deadpool. Why does he want to be another superhero?

      I would be inclined to pick Reynolds but he's Deadpool, so I pick Cooper, even though I'm not sure if he can pull it off. No to JT!

      Nathan Fillon would be a great choice, as well as Brian Austin Green. At least this are way way way better than Justin.

      Ryan Reynolds has the Deadpool thing... And he had express his desire to be Flash... NO

      So, there is no more choice than Cooper. Hope he can really wear the ring!

      What happened to Nathan Fillion? Grrrr! Honestly if Deadpool is going to be a big hit Ryan Reynolds could still lead Green Lantern because in Deadpool he will be completely unrecognizable anyway. LOL!

      This all reads like a smoke show to get Bradley Cooper's price down, to me. If he's been in the running since Drew from Hitfix reported on it a ways back, then it fits to reason that he's the company favorite.

      Much as I enjoy the other two as entertainers, I think Cooper is the one that would come to the part with the least baggage.

      If Reynolds had not played "Deadpool," I bet he would be the runaway popular choice. I would be ecstatic if they picked him.

      And I have long maintained Cooper would be a good choice.

      But Timberlake is just ... no. I would literally stop following the movie's progress.

      I think Ryan Reynolds is brilliant, but I'd rather have him working on Deadpool than this.

      I think the consensus is 'NOT TIMBERLAKE' though. His name's just out there to get the attention of people who couldn't give two shits about Green Lantern.

      im gna be honest, i think i can totally play Green Lantern. looking at the comic book picture of him, i swear i look just like that!.. no joke.. ha, thats the only reason i saw this blog, saw that pic in google and wanted to see what it was all about. Thats freakin wicked. Maybe if i worked out alittle more i'd look exactly like him.
