Peter (from Slashfilm) and I had a plan. Over the weekend we came up with a bunch of subjects we wanted to talk about and we had every intention of recording a video blog Monday afternoon. But…Disney and Marvel made us alter our plans. Due to their $4 Billion dollar merger, we spent Monday talking about what the merger meant and what cool stuff might happen as a result of it.

But now we’re back on point and it’s time for our new video blog that covers a lot of subjects. In part one of our two part conversation, Peter and I talk about whether or not director Neill Blomkamp should do a sequel to “Distrcit 9″ or make a new, original movie. We then debate if Pixar/Disney releasing the “Toy Story” double feature is a mistake, or if it’s still going to make a ton of money. Finally we talk about Spider-Man 4,5, and 6 and what we think Sony is going to do with the franchise. Take a look after the jump:

A quick note before watching: We record these video blogs using Skype and for some reason we had a few technical issues while recording. Just know that before watching. Finally, in a few days look for part two where we talk about “Avatar” and “Star Trek”.

I think Neill Blomkamp should move on make another original classic like he did with district 9 .Other people don’t do that they just make sequel which is least interesting he should just move on as far as toy story is concerned i will watch even if it is 3or4 hours movie i love toy story it’s classic from pixar and as for spider man if the 4th part is good then only i will watch 5 and 6 otherwise it can go to hell. Thanks for your video blogs steve that’s the thing i love about your site you are the video blogs and you are a movie geek like me

I agree with Steve, that no re-boot is necessary!!! Part 4 should wrap up both the cast and crew and 5 & 6 should be recast. I’d like to see another director take a crack at Spidey. Steve, Robert could NEVER play Peter Parker. Way too old!! If you ask me, Robert would make a FAR BETTER Bruce Banner than Peter Parker!!

    Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Peter Parker?

Forgot to add, the Collider + /film videocasts are probably the best thing geekwise on the net right now. MCN just started Super Movie Friends which is the esoteric version of what you and Peter do so brilliantly.

    Keep ‘em coming!

    My 2 cents on Spider-Man 4-6:
Take the existing cast, get rid of Mary Jane (send her to France or so, just like they did with Lois in Superman 3), use the Lizzard which was seeded throughout the first 3 films, recast the parts for 5 and 6, let Peter and Gwen Stacy (former Howard character) become lovers and then kill Gwen Stacy.

Gwen’s death is in comic book lore/continuity and it’s a reason for being Spider-Man. After all, Spider-Man 3 ended with Parker forgiving Sandman for killing Uncle Ben, which ends that struggle. Now his struggle is that he could not save her.

In 4 he would basically try to cure Dr. Connor from being the Lizzard, 5 would be trying to save Gwen from… let’s say Scorpion, Rhino and Vulture, and 6 would be hunting down the villans from 5 that got away.
This way part 5 would also end with a funeral, just like 1 and 3. If they bring back Mary Jane in 6 we have a nice rule of “Every even movie ends with Happy Parker getting the girld” and “Every odd movie ends with sad parker walking through a graveyard in slow motion”.

    And don’t cast Zac Efron!!!

You guys completely ignored THE STORY of D9. I’m dying to know what happens next. Shouldn’t that be the real test as to whether a sequel is warranted?

George Lucas needs to shoot a PREQUEL TRILOGY: District 6, District 7, and District 8.

Just imagine all the green-screen CGI possibilities!
