First Set Photo of Michael Doulgas as Gordon Gecko in Oliver Stone’s WALL STREET 2: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS

The first photo of Michael Douglas picking up the part of Gordon Gecko from Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” has just popped up online and it ain’t doing much for me.  I’m left wondering if Gecko is trying to be slick 2000s guy or slick 80s guys stuck in the 2000s.  The plot of the film has a formerly-incarcerated Gecko teaming up with Shia LaBeouf’s character Jacob to find out who killed Jacob’s mentor (played by Frank Langella) and to warn the financial world of the impending credit crisis.  See, that right there–warning the financial world about the credit crisis–that’s idiotic.  That’s like warning a gambler that even though he keeps doubling-down, he will eventually lose it all.  The gambler knows this, but does it anyway.  If Oliver Stone can’t even do this tiny piece of borderline-common sense research on this, then I don’t really care what Gordon Gecko looks like after twenty years.  If you still do, hit the jump.

      I don't understand your objection. Lots of analysts were trying to warn against an impending credit crunch at the beginning of the decade, but people on Wall Street really believed that profits could be made with lowering interests rates and doing a whole host of other bad things. Check out videos of Peter Schiff on youtube for an idea of how rough things were getting between the critics and defenders of the new Wall Street way.

      I work on wall street, but I don't have to to see that the premise for this movie boldly out of date and moronic. My grandmother knows what happened to the economy and she keeps her money in a big jar in the yard under the dog's house. If Shia Laboufe goes running around yelling about the credit crunch, he might as well warn us about the threat of airliners crashing into buildings while he is at it. Laboufe a financial analyst? Is it a comedy?
