One, two, Freddy’s coming for you…That’s right boys and girls of Elm Street! The bastard son of a hundred maniacs is coming back to theaters next spring, and after months of waiting, all those who didn’t have the pleasure of attending the panel at last July’s San Diego Comic-Con finally have their first look of the new face of the dream demon in this fantastic trailer for the Platinum Dunes remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, set to terrorize screens in April, 2010. Hit the jump to see the trailer for yourself!
Judging from this trailer, which is almost exactly the Comic-Con footage with a bit more dialogue and a different glimpse of Freddy, this film is set to be the best remake Platinum Dunes has produced yet. As a guy who isn’t too thrilled with the number of remakes, reboots, and re-imaginings coming out of Hollywood over the last several years, I have to say that this looks absolutely excellent. It seems atmospheric, disturbing, and geek god Jackie Earl Haley looks to rock us all right out of our socks as the man in the fedora, all respect to Robert Englund, of course. The small glimpse we get of Freddy here seems pitch perfect, and seems like this flick will do something for Freddy that hasn’t been done in over a decade…actually make him scary. Yeah, making an undead child molester who can attack you in your dreams scary, novel concept, I know.
Anywho, it’s going to be a long wait for this flick for anybody that loves the Nightmare franchise and has been waiting a long time to see it take back a little dignity. I know, “Freddy Vs. Jason” was fun, “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare” was decent, if not little more than a long episode of “Freddy’s Nightmares”, but this looks like it’s going to blow those out of the water. Here’s to staying up late. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” opens April 30, 2010.

The voice,The FACE…it’s all wrong,if your going to remake a classic movie atleast do it right…
The burnage on the face is just totally off and the voice is just something to laugh at….
Should have done some homework on the cast for this one.
I heard they’re going for a realistic approach (when it comes to the burns) and I can’t really tell because there’s hardly any light him (mainly due to the fedora). The voice doesn’t bother me because this is supposed different not a exact copy of the original.
Kind of disappointed by what has been shown in the trailer. What with the voice ? How is that all menancing? The only thing of interest were the scenes involving falling ash or snow; otherwise it’s another Platinum Dunes stinker.
I agree with Keola. Nobody wants to see the same freddy movies we’ve all been watching for many years. We want something new. I just wish they would of kept his face the same or similiar. He looks like Golem or something. lol All in all, Im stoked to see this!
@ Tiffany:
The point of a remake isn’t to re-produce a carbon copy of the original. (i.e. the remake of “Night of the Living Dead”) I’m honestly very skeptical about how promising this film is, but I’m definitely intrigued by the completely different take on Freddy.
The fact that it is a “remake” and not a “sequel” should tell you guys ahead of time that its not the same old Freddy. If they wanted to do that, they would’ve just cast Robert Englund and been done with it. I think the realistic makeup and altered Glove design is a breathe of fresh air for a character that I personally love, but had become pure “camp” (i.e. playing pinball with Jason’s body in the dream world of Freddy vs. Jason). Maybe Jackie Earl Haley can make Freddy terrifying again…
THE MOVIE AS A HOLE LOOKS PRETTY KOOL BUT…………..FREDDY LOOKS GAY! HE LOOKS ALL CGI! IF ENGLUND WHANT THRU 7 HOURS OF MAKEUP ON AVARAGE BACK IN 1984, THAN THIS DUDE CAN SIT THRU LIKE 2 OR SO…..SO DISAPOINTED! FREDDY IS PLAYED BUT SOME GUY WHO WAS IN WATCHMAN…HE PLAYED Rorschach….HIS NAME IS Jackie Earle Haley …..ENGLUND IS SUPPORTING HIM N ENGLUND DID NOT WANT TO DO THE REMAKE……IM SO UPSET BOUT THAT BUT AT THE SAME TIME I CAN SEE WHY…..IT OPENS IN THEASERS 4/30/10! I WILL HAVE TO FIND A MIDNIGHT SHOWING OF IT….N IM GOIN EVEN IF I GOT WORK THE NEXT DAY AT LIKE 7AM…..BUT IM GOIN TO TRY N GET IT OFF……N I WILL PROLLY B AT THE THEATERS THE HOLE DAY….POURIN $ INTO IT BETWEEN FOOD N NIGHTMARE………………if u want to talk more about this or just to say hey message me……..www.myspace.com/freddy1014ever
I think this could be a really cool movie if they do it right. The trick is to keep it faithful enough not to royally piss off fans, but fresh enough to make us feel like we’re watching something new. Only thing I don’t like about the trailer is the voice. It sounds like Jim Carrey in the grinch. But maybe they’re just doing that for the trailer. I know in the original movies trailer they had a less intimidating voice saying, “I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy” and then in the actual film his voice was all deep and demonic.
