It’s official! The all-time Opening Day record for any film premiering on any day has fallen. All hail the new king of the box office: The Twilight Saga: New Moon.  See what the concentrated power of ten million screaming tween girls can accomplish? Official estimates from Summit Entertainment put New Moon at $72.7 million for Friday, including the $26.3 million the sequel brought in from its midnight engagements. That is more than $5 million above the former all-time record of $67.2 million set by The Dark Knight back in 2008 and a 100% increase on the $36 million debut of Twilight one year ago. The question now is whether New Moon can keep up this pace long enough to break The Dark Knight’s other record: $158.4 million in three days. Check back tomorrow to find out how it all plays out.

Title Friday Total
1 New Moon $72,700,000 $72.7
2 The Blind Side $10,920,000 $10.9
3 2012 $8,100,000 $89.8
4 Precious $3,600,000 $13.9
5 Planet 51 $3,150,000 $3.1

It only broke opening day record that's for them but it won't beat the weekend record of 158 million set by Dark Knight and by the way this is no way near as good as Dark Knight .It will be interesting how the numbers will fall in the second week that's my for sure. Thanks for the figures Nicole Pedersen but it is not good movie .I kind of a fell like sick that this kind of a teenage vampire movie is beating super heroes movies it's a shame. It will bring at least 125 million that's my prediction.

.As far as this movie I agree with on you that but I'm not quite sure it will manage to top the $158 million "The Dark Knight" brought in during the first three day. This movie has got bad reviews and it will fall in the coming days .After the first weekend there will no Twilight fans to watch it only regular people let's see how do they find it fascinating I thought it sucked .

Its ridiculous. But one of those films that will be forgotten by Christmas. TDK had incredible word of mouth. More people went to see it later on than in the beginning.
  • The end is nigh..
Oh great, looks like Hell froze over and the worse part is that Hell now sparkles.... : (

Let's see how much it brings in overseas market it will be interesting if it puts 2012 down in the international market and brings more money.
