I didn’t really understand what Season of the Witch was about beyond being a test case for the credulity of a Nicolas Cage hairpiece.  Now that the first full trailer for the film has appeared online, it looks like 3:10 to Yuma but instead of a posse being besieged by bandits while trying to take an outlaw to a train station, this movie is about a band of warriors besieged by the forces of hell while trying to take a witch to an abbey.  But if you ignore the Rob Zombie music, the dull color palette, and failed attempts at creepy imagery, you still have Ron Perlman kicking ass and getting billed alongside Nicolas Cage and that’s why you should check out this trailer after the jump.

Season of the Witch hits theaters on March 19, 2010.

I can’t help but laugh that the trailer for Remember Me starts with Robert Pattinson’s character quoting Ghandi before getting into a fist-fight.  I’m not exactly sure what the point of the film is other than Pattinson is a rebel without a cause and people beat him up a lot.  I’ll admit that Pattinson good looking and the camera loves him when he looks like a real person and not an albino with orange contact lenses.  He’s obviously trying to find a career beyond Twilight, but I’m not sure another dramatic romance movie where only a good woman can mend his broken soul is going to accomplish that.

If I didn’t know that Zhang Yimou’s (Hero) upcoming film The First Gun (formerly Amazing Tales: Three Guns) was a remake of/re-imaging of/in-anyway-connected-to the Coen Brothers classic, debut film Blood Simple., then I never would have guessed it from the Chinese trailer that just went online.  Now I don’t speak Chinese (or Mandarin or whatever dialect or language they’re speaking in the trailer) but none of the images clue me in to the plot of a cuckold who hires a hitman to murder his adulterous wife and her lover.  It’s not the setting.  I just can’t see the plot.  I guess maybe the guy in black with the bow and arrow and a cannon is the hitman?  Clearly, Yimou has made some radical changes, but when you see this trailer, I doubt you’ll think, “Huh.  This kind of reminds me of Blood Simple.”

Stateside, we’ve only received a couple teasers for Chris Columbus’ Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief but the international trailer for the film just went online and it’s not just a teaser.  It tells you about the characters and provides a sense of the movie’s tone instead of just the premise (regular kid discovers he’s a demigod and his father was the Greek god Poseidon).  Now whether you think a kid using his iPhone to avoid looking directly at Medusa (played by Uma Thurman) makes for a good movie is a different story.  Either way, the Greek gods are getting their due in 2010 with Percy Jackson hitting theaters on February 12^th, Clash of the Titans on March 26^th, and the highly-anticipated PlayStation 3 game God of War III hitting shelves sometime in March as well.

A French poster and trailer for The Wolfman have come online and while I don’t understand a single word of the trailer (damn you French dubbing!), I think the poster may be my favorite thus far. Much like the previous poster featuring only Emily Blunt, they’re not trying to impress you with the scary image of a lupine-Benecio Del Toro, but provide a smirking nod to the horror in store for the viewer.  All you get with this new one is the top of a cane.  You could do far worse when it comes to a teaser poster.  And while I don’t understand what the characters are saying in the French trailer, I think it’s clear that this film will be visually impressive.  Check out both the trailer and the poster after the jump.  The Wolfman hits theaters in both the US and France on February 10, 2010.

Jeff Bridges is an actor who’s overdue for an Oscar.  He’s been nominated four times before (Best Supporting Actor for The Contender, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and The Last Picture Show; Best Actor for Starman) and has a wealth of great performances in his filmography.  It looks like Bridges is adding another one to his filmography as he’s getting some serious Oscar-buzz for his performance as a hard-living country singer in Crazy Heart.

This is also good news for Fox Searchlight, which looked like they were going to be out of this year’s Oscar race after Amelia flopped.  Now a film which was on no one’s radar two months ago is being called The Wrestler of 2009.  You can get that sense from both the poster and trailer for the film but not in a “me too” kind of way.  I’m always up for Jeff Bridges being great and it looks like Crazy Heart isn’t going to disappoint.  Hit the jump to see the trailer, poster, and a brief synopsis.   Crazy Heart is slated to hit theaters in limited release on December 16^th.

I will say this for Nine’s new trailer: it’s gutsy as hell.  This flick is one of the hardest sells of the year because unlike director Rob Marshall’s previous film musical, Chicago, Nine is not an easy to digest fame-at-any-cost story.  The source material is Frederico Fellini’s 8 ½, the story of a famous film director (Daniel Day Lewis) who comes to a crisis both in his creative life and in his personal life as he tries to cope with his numerous female relationships.  But like the previous trailer, this new one tells you none of that and just gives you a spectacular musical number featuring Kate Hudson and montage of all the main characters in the movie.

Whether you loved or hated Chicago (I fall into the former category), there’s no denying Marshall’s talent for capturing complex musical numbers as he manages to make them both stagy and cinematic.  The film has a hell of an Oscar-pedigree because in addition to Marshall and Day Lewis the cast includes six more Oscar-winners: Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, and Sofia Loren.  Nine may have a good shot at this year’s Academy Award but you can see the new trailer after the jump and decide if that’s enough to draw in audiences when it opens on December 18^th (the same release date as Avatar).

You know that Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Chris Rock are good guys because they let their friends Rob Schneider and David Spade share the spotlight despite the complete lack of talent or star power from those two.  But we can enjoy another safe, middle-of-the-road comedy from comedians who lost all desire for subversive and challenging humor in their movies (although to be fair, Rock excels when performing his own material).  I’m sure it will be successful at the box office, but I’ll be spending time on films I find funny rather than those that make me wistful for a time when Sandler was willing to be madcap enough to set Bradley Whitford on fire in one scene and have him perfectly fine in the next.

With their wives and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn’t mean growing up.

Watching the trailer for Leap Year, I couldn’t help but wonder, “Who put Amy Adams in this Kate Hudson movie?”  Adams is far too talented for a role which requires her to be a neurotic straight woman desperate for marriage and then do adorable pratfalls along the way.  I don’t need to see this kind of movie again and I certainly don’t want to see Adams do a role she could do in her sleep.

A woman (Amy Adams) heads to Ireland in order to force her boyfriend (Adam Scott) to accept her wedding proposal by scheduling it on leap day, the only time when he couldn’t refuse due to the country’s tradition in this Spyglass Entertainment romantic comedy. Shopgirl’s Anand Tucker directs from a script by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan. Matthew Goode co-stars as a handsome innkeeper who throws a wrench into the woman’s plans.

Not to be confused with Extreme Measure, Extraordinary Measures is the heartwarming tale of a father who risked it all to save his kids as opposed to Extreme Measures where Gene Hackman kills homeless people to cure paralysis.  Fraser plays a father whose kids are sick so he spends whatever he has to so a brilliant/eccentric scientist played by Harrison Ford can develop a cure before the kids die.  No harmless are harmed in the making of this cure.

The trailer and two posters for the film have arrived online and they’re both slightly confusing.  In the trailer, folks keep treating Fraser like he’s crazy to spend so much money and push this scientist to develop a cure for the rare illness.  Obviously, the far more sensible thing to do is let his kids perish.  It will hurt for the rest of his life but think of the savings!  As for the posters, one shows Fraser and Ford as a Venn Diagram while the other shows the two modeling the suits they just bought at the Men’s Wearhouse (and they like the way the look). I was under the impression that Date Night would have stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey as a married couple who undergo a series of comic mishaps as they try to have a nice night out on the town-a kind of quasi-remake of The Out-of-Towners.  But as the first trailer shows us, Date Night is a comedy-action movie.  The plot may be “married couple vs. gangsters” but the movie looks like “Carell/Fey vs. bad jokes/director Shawn Levy”.  Here’s hoping that Carell and Fey win.

A movie that people are raving about is director Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass.  I spoke to a few people that saw a test screening last week at the Arclight in Hollywood and they weren’t just raving about the movie…they were practically losing their minds over the film.  If their reaction is any indication of how good the movie is, Lionsgate is going to be very happy they bought the film for domestic distribution.

Anyway, the first trailer has been released and it’s decent.  The thing about Kick-Ass is it’s very violent and very R rated.  It’s just hard to sell how cool this film is when you have to work in a PG  environment.  Saying that, I’d imagine as the release gets closer, we’re going to get a red band trailer or something that lets people know this is not a kids superhero movie.  Either way, the trailer is worth checking out.  Take a look after the jump:

The first teaser trailer for director Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans has been released and it looks awesome.  If you were nervous the movie would be some cheesy remake, think again.  The film looks like it’s loaded with action, effects, and some awesome creatures.  Also, I love the way the teaser trailer is all music with almost no dialogue.   To any of the other studios checking this trailer out…this is how you sell a movie.  Check it out after the jump and tell me you’re not excited.

During last Sunday’s season finale of AMC’s acclaimed hit show Mad Men, Paramount debuted a new trailer for Jason Reitman’s upcoming film Up in the Air, starring George Clooney.  I saw the film a couple weeks ago and I really enjoyed it.  Like Reitman’s previous film, Juno, it mixes sharp comic writing with genuine emotion (minus the distinctive Diablo Cody dialogue that some folks found off-putting).  The film is currently getting a strong amount of Oscar buzz and even if there were still only five Best Picture nominees instead of ten, I’d still wager that Up in the Air would get one of the slots along with Clooney landing his second Best Actor nomination. If you’re looking forward to this film, the new trailer won’t dampen your enthusiasm one bit.

To put it kindly, I wasn’t exactly wowed when the trailer for Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” hit back in July.  Now the second trailer is online and my interest in this movie is diminished almost to the point of indifference.  This new trailer, the one closer to the film’s release date of December 4^th, is only a minute long and relies on Mr. Movie Voice to explain the plot.  It makes the movie looks like nothing but big emotional moments with no characters in between.  I’m hoping that the elements of Sheridan, Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman, and Jake Gyllenhaal combine to make a better film than I’m seeing from the trailers.  Check out the trailer after the jump.  It will only take a minute.

In 2007, Casey Affleck was a force to be reckoned with as he landed a one-two punch with “Gone Baby Gone” and “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.  Affleck makes his return next summer in Michael Winterbottom’s “The Killer Inside Me,” based off Jim Thompson’s novel.  The story follows a bored, small-town cop who decides to liven up his life with a little sociopathy and murder followed by the fun of covering up his tracks.

The trailer from the American Film Market has popped up online and at nearly six-minutes long, it gives away most of the film so if you’re looking to go in cold, do not watch it.  But I’ll tell you up front that Affleck looks as charming and devious as ever.  Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Simon Baker, Ned Beatty, and Bill Pullman round out the cast but it’s clear that this is Affleck’s film and that’s why I’m excited to see this film, even if I saw the synopsis in visual form with this trailer.  It will probably vanish from the YouTube soon so if you want to catch, hit the jump and watch it now.

Much like the previous trailer, “Despicable Me” once again attempts to sell itself with few words and no explanation of the plot.  The first trailer was about Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) trying to steal the world’s monuments. This time, it looks like the movie is about Gru trying to take the top spot on the world’s ranking of supervillains by taking down the #1 Supervillain, “Vector”.  Then slapstick happens.  Kids who see the trailer will probably go nuts over Vector sliding his butt around his security defense keyboard.

While the first look at director Phillip Noyce’s “Salt” happened a few days ago due to a leaked Russian trailer, Sony has wisely posted the official trailer so we can all stop trying to decipher Russian.  If you saw the Russian trailer, the official release is exactly the same.

As Matt said the other day, “Salt” looks like Jason Bourne in a dress.  And that’s a good thing, especially when it’s Angelina Jolie wearing the dress.  If you like action movies, check out the trailer after the jump.  “Salt” hits theaters on July 23^rd, 2010.

A new trailer for Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” has been released and it looks fantastic.  If you weren’t excited after watching the first trailer all those months ago, this trailer is going to get you.  It’s loaded with new footage and it really showcases the action.  Also, we get to see some great bromance between Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

The only thing I’m still nervous about is Downey’s accent.  While it’s not terrible, there is something about it that isn’t working for me. I’m just hoping when I finally see the movie his accent isn’t a distraction.  Check out the trailer after the jump and tell me this doesn’t look like a fun ride.  “Sherlock Holmes” gets released Christmas Day.

The first trailer (and real first look) at Angelina Jolie’s upcoming spy thriller, “Salt” just landed online and the only problem I have with this trailer is that all the dialogue is Russian which probably has something to do with it being a Russian trailer for an American movie.  But even if you don’t understand that crazy-commie talk, it’s very clear that “Salt” is Jason Bourne in a dress…a very sexy dress worn by a highly attractive woman.  While all spy movies now walk in the shadow of Jason Bourne, I never mind watching Jolie tear it up and do so without having to curve bullets.
