Earlier this morning I went to the House of Blues to see Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer announce their new tour. If you don’t recognize the names, they’re the guys behind both Spinal Tap and The Folksmen (from "A Mighty Wind"). But unlike previous tours that have focused on the characters they play, for their upcoming spring tour, they’re going out as themselves! Also, they’re going to play unplugged!

They also announced:

  • They’re recording a new album that will feature “original studio versions” of the first Spinal Tap album (it was recorded live back in the early 80’s). It’s due for release May26th.
  • They’re currently working on getting more Spinal Tap music on Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band.
  • The tour starts April 17th and it goes till May 31st. Full schedule is at bottom of article.

So to help get the press excited this morning, the guys came out and played acoustically for about 5 minutes. Since they let us tape the event….here’s the video.

After the performance, the guys did a twenty or so minute Q&A with Kurt Loder hosting the event. I managed to tape it, but due to not having a tri-pod, it might be a little shaky….Finally, the tour dates are below the Q&A or you can go to www.unwigged.com for more info.
