As of today, I am going to be much more proactive in posting press releases from the studios about upcoming DVDs. I may not write that much on the titles, as I really want to focus my attention in other ways, but I am going to post the info. Most of the time the DVD artwork is not available yet, but if it is, I will post it. Earlier today Sony announced four new DVDs scheduled for release in May and June. They are all below. UNDERWORLD EVOLUTION Street Date June 6th Synopsis: Underworld Evolution traces the beginnings of the ancient feud between the Death Dealers and the Lycans as beautiful vampire heroine Selene (Beckinsale) and Lycan werewolf hybrid Michael (Speedman) try to unlock the secrets of their bloodlines before the two tribes end their search and their lives. Betrayed by fellow vampires and her maker Viktor (Nighy), Selene must overcome her suffering to end the war between the tribes and seek revenge for the death of her mortal family and the disloyalty of her own kind. Selene and Michael’s quest for peace, truth and the destruction of the evil powers lurking on the seat of the vampire throne takes them into the battle to end all wars as the immortals finally face their retribution. DVD BONUS Features Include Director and Filmmaker’s Commentary Making-of-featurette Visual effects featurette Creature featurette Stunts Featurette Design Featurette Music and sound design featurette Bonus music video No artwork is available yet so pictured is the old DVD BLACK HAWK DOWN: EXTENDED CUT Street Date June 6th Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the extended cut DVD of the Academy Award-winning film Black Hawk Down June 6, just in time for Father’s Day. From Oscar-nominated Director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Hannibal) and Emmy-winning producer Jerry Bruckheimer (TV’s “The Amazing Race,” Pearl Harbor, Armageddon), Blackhawk Down: Extended Cut has been completely digitally remastered for the best quality picture and sound and features eight additional minutes of footage. Black Hawk Down: Extended Cut will be available on a single disc DVD for an SRP of $19.94. Based on Mark Bowden’s best-selling book, “Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War,” the film won two Academy Awards in 2002 for “Best Film Editing” and “Best Sound” and details the ill-fated U.S. Army humanitarian mission in Somalia on October 3, 1993. Josh Hartnett (Sin City, Pearl Harbor), Ewan McGregor (Star Wars Episodes I-III, Big Fish, Moulin Rouge), Tom Sizemore (Pearl Harbor, Saving Private Ryan), Eric Bana (Munich, Hulk), William Fichtner (Ultraviolet, The Perfect Storm), Ewen Bremner (Match Point, Snatch) and Sam Shepard (The Notebook, All The Pretty Horses) star as an elite force of U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force soldiers in this dramatic war epic. Blackhawk Down was a box office hit when it was released in December 2001, grossing more than $100 million. Recounting the true story of a war waged in Mogadishu, Somalia, Black Hawk Down delivers an intense, detailed account of a mission gone disastrously wrong. The film depicts events that occurred on October 3, 1993, when a group of more than 100 U.S. Army Rangers and Deltas dropped into Somalia to complete a covert operation. Their assignment is to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord whose corrupt regime has led to the starvation of hundreds of thousands of Somalis. But when the simple exercise goes catastrophically array, the men find themselves outnumbered and literally fighting for their lives, locked in a desperate battle against a large force of heavily-armed Somalis. DVD BONUS Features PBS Presents: “Frontline: Ambush in Mogadishu” with Interactive Mission Map/Timeline Eight minutes of additional footage Completely digitally remastered for the best possible picture and sound WHEN A STRANGER CALLS Street Date May 16th Synopsis: When a Stranger Calls takes place a hundred miles away from the scene of a murder in small town America where high school student Jill Johnson (Belle) settles in for a routine night of babysitting. With the children asleep and a beautiful home to explore, she locks the door and sets the alarm. But when a series of eerie phone calls from a stranger (Flanagan) insisting she “check the children” turns the perfect babysitting job into a 16-year-old’s worst nightmare, Jill begins to panic. Fear escalates to terror when she has the calls traced and learns the calls are coming from inside the house. DVD BONUS Features Include · Deleted Scenes · Behind-the-scenes featurette · Director and cast commentary · Writers commentary No artwork is available yet so pictured is the import DVD FAREWELL TO THE KING Written and Directed by Academy Award-nominee John Milius (Apocalypse Now, Geronimo: An American Legend) Street Date June 6th Synopsis: In Farewell to the King, American soldier Learoyd (Nolte) escapes capture by Japanese soldiers during the WWII Battle of Corregidor. Hiding himself in the wilds of Borneo, Learoyd is adopted by a head-hunting tribe of Dyak natives who consider him “divine” because of his elaborate tattoos. Before long Learoyd becomes the reigning king of the Dyaks, but when his tribe is attacked by the Japanese, he conducts a war of vengeance as the “King” fights for their rights.
