ONE DAY AT A TIME: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON

Street Date April 24

Though created by husband-and-wife writing duo Whitney Blake and Allan Manings, One Day at a Time indelibly displayed the imprint of its legendary producer Norman Lear.  The series depicted a divorced mother raising two headstrong teenage daughters while trying to maintain a career and, like other Lear comedies (All in the Family, Maude, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman), was occasionally controversial, tackling topical family issues such as teen sexuality and money problems in a candid, straightforward manner. On April 24, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment debuts One Day at a Time: The Complete First Season on DVD featuring all 15 episodes in a two-disc set.  The series stars Emmy®-nominee Bonnie Franklin, three-time Golden Globe® nominee Valerie Bertinelli (who won twice), Mackenzie Phillips, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Pat Harrington, Jr., and Richard Masur.

The bonus materials include The One Day at a Time Reunion Special, which originally aired on CBS, in which Franklin, Bertinelli, Phillips and Harrington are reunited to reminiscence about the show nearly 30 years after it debuted.  The special, which incorporates additional footage not seen in its original airing, also features interviews with recurring cast members Masur, Shelley Fabares, Nanette Fabray, Michael Lembeck, and Glenn Scarpelli.  One Day at a Time: The Complete First Season will be available for $29.95 SRP. One Day at a Time debuted mid-season on December 16, 1975, and remained a Top 20 show in the Nielsen ratings for CBS during most of its run.  Over the course of nine seasons, the series aired 209 episodes and was nominated for three Emmy Awards (winning two) and nine Golden Globes (winning three).  Highlights from the first season include episodes where Julie (Phillips) debates going “all the way,” Barbara (Bertinelli) tries to get her parents back together, Julie flirts with her teacher to get a better grade, David (Masur) proposes to Ann (Franklin), Julie’s date develops a crush on Ann, and Ann’s ex-husband Ed (guest star Joseph Campanella) decides to remarry.

The Marsh DVD

Street Date April 17

SYNOPSIS:  Claire Holloway (Anwar) is the author of a series of successful children’s books.  Her personal life, however, is far from a storybook tale.  Visions of violence and death haunt her and she is tortured by a darkness that seems to seep from the corners of her subconscious.  In hopes of clearing her mind, Claire takes her doctor’s advice to go on a sabbatical.  She decides to stay at the Rose Marsh Farmhouse, which looks suspiciously like the house she sees in her nightmares. Almost immediately upon arriving at the farmhouse, Claire is shaken by a series of escalating and unexplained events and plunged into a frightening world controlled by the ghost of a ten year old girl (Wilson) - the very girl that Claire has seen in her dreams many nights before.  In a frantic attempt to save her sanity, Claire enlists the help of Geoffrey Hunt (Whitaker), a paranormal consultant who helps her unravel the mysterious village’s dark secret - as well as her own.

The DVD Set Also Includes 23 Classic Episodes of the Emmy Award-Winning TV Program, the Documentary – “The Making of The Larry Sanders Show” - and Features Guest Appearances by Jason Alexander, Warren Beatty, Jim Carrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Sean Penn, Vince Vaughn and More

Forget about the 23 featured episodes of the Emmy Award®-winning “The Larry Sanders Show” (it received a whopping 56 Emmy nominations during its run on HBO). NOT JUST THE BEST OF THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW contains more than eight hours of newly produced material that makes this not just your usual DVD – not even close! The four-disc DVD boxed set debuts on DVD on April 17 at the suggested retail price of $49.95. This innovative, provocative and hugely entertaining release includes personal, intimate, indulgent visits meant until now for only Garry Shandling to see – raw, real-life situations between Shandling and stars who appear in the featured episodes – including  Alec Baldwin, Tom Petty, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart, Sharon Stone and many others. These unrehearsed visits surpass even the Larry Sanders reality, as they once again explore the core ingredients of the ground-breaking program – unexpected human behavior, truth and humor.

The DVD includes the documentary, The Making of The Larry Sanders Show, which reveals an in-depth and surprising look at the process of turning a script into a show that was ahead of its time. The Los Angeles Times selected Garry Shandling’s series as one of ten TV programs that had ‘inarguable influence’ on the industry and this DVD is a celebration of the series’ unique place in entertainment lore. NOT JUST THE BEST OF THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW also features guest appearances on the featured episodes by a wide slate of stars which includes Jim Carrey, Vince Vaughn, Warren Beatty, Sean Penn, Ellen DeGeneres, Jason Alexander, Carol Burnett and Winona Ryder. The featurette “Rip Torn and Jeffrey Tambor Visit Garry Shandling in His Living Room” is a reunion of Shandling, Torn and Tambor discussing working together on the show. Also included are interview featurettes with cast members Penny Johnson, Wallace Langham, Scott Thompson, Janeane Garofalo, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Sarah Silverman, Jeremy Piven, Bob Odenkirk, and Linda Doucett.

The Larry Sanders Show debuted on HBO August 1, 1992, and was ahead of its time, becoming an immediate critical and audience hit for its satirical, tongue-in-cheek look at Hollywood. The series that combined documentary-like camerawork with a clever blend of fact and fiction set the standard of quality for HBO and influenced the development of shows like Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Office.Over the course of its six-year, 89-episode run, the series was nominated for 56 Emmy Awards [winning three: Outstanding Writing (Shandling & Peter Tolan); Outstanding Directing (Todd Holland); Outstanding Supporting Actor (Rip Torn)].
