On the morning of January 31st, Frosty and I journeyed up into the Hollywood hills and started what will hopefully be a long and fruitful relationship with Vivid Entertainment, the makers of such modern adult classics as The New Devil in Miss Jones and their recent release My Evil Twin.

It was a truly thrilling experience to go to our first porno shoot.  Most people just dream about doing something like this.  I was even apprehensive at first to call this kind of movie making “porno,” but they all assured me that it wasn’t a dirty word.  The cast and crew could not have been more accommodating or friendlier.  They were really awesome and if this is what it’s like to be on one of these shoots, then count me in.

While we were on set, Frosty and I were able to do some great interviews with three of the film’s key creative players:  The star of the film, the beautiful and voluptuous Mercedez, who was finishing out her current contract with Vivid; the very funny and affable Shylar Cobi, producer of several hundred Vivid titles; and Paul Thomas, the multi award-winning director of Grudge and legend of the adult entertainment industry.

Here’s a quick preview of the interviews we did with them...

MERCEDEZ

Star

Mercedez Vivid

SCOTT SWAN: Why do you think that Latin women are the sexiest women in the world?

MERCEDEZ:  Because we’re fiery.   I think we’re more passionate.  Um, I think there are so many beautiful Latin women out there right now that guys fantasize about.  We’re definitely a lot more voluptuous body-wise.  You hardly ever see a Mexican girl that’s like (brings her arms straight down to illustrate a woman with no shape) that.  It’s very rare.  I think ever man wants a girl with body and when you put that passion and the fire together... it’s a good combination.

You can see a whole lot more of Mercedez at her official website.

SHYLAR COBI

Producer

SCOTT SWAN:  I was watching a Vivid title, The New Devil in Miss Jones, and I was amazed that there’s still a story in some adult movies.

SHYLAR COBI:  Oh, yeah.

SS:  I had gotten into the habit of just getting videos that have no story.  I just thought that’s how they all are these days.

SC:  Absolutely not.  I mean, in the 80’s feature porn was real big.  That’s what it was all about.  Then in the late 80’s Ed Powers came around and started the gonzo scene.  I guess if you’re getting porn for what you should be getting it for, which is to jerk off, you’re gonna want a gonzo.  But if you want to watch it with your old lady...

SS:  You need something classier.

SC:  You need a story... something that will get your girl involved.

SS:  It's kind of like cleansing the palate.  It’s like, “Ah, this is nice.”

SC:  It still has nasty fucking sex in it.

PAUL THOMAS

Director

Paul Thomas
Vivid

SCOTT SWAN:  Do you detest the movies that are non-story?

PAUL THOMAS:  Detest them?! My god, no.  My god.  Good gonzo... okay... detest is too strong a word, but I don’t like product that just starts with the sex scene.  But good gonzo doesn’t.  My friends Rocco, and John Stagliano, and John Leslie... they have gonzo and it’s just sex but they don’t just start with the sex; there’s fifteen-twenty minutes of setting it up, seeing the girl on the street, following her around, talking to her... it’s all about the setup.  Whether it’s a script or non-scripted, to me, just as important as the sex itself, and actually, to me, more important, is the setup and the seduction and the tease and building up of the sexual tension, getting to know who the girl is, seeing her in life situations that are not just fucking.  I love to see that girl walking down Rodeo Drive in something really sex and men looking at her see-though skirt way before I see her fucking.  Yeah, when they just start off with the fucking, I do detest it, because it’s a waste of good time and energy.  (Laughs)

Well, there you have it.  A sneak peek at the conversations we had with the makers of Grudge, one of the titles that's in the works right now at Vivid Entertainment.  Be on the lookout right here at Collider for the complete transcriptions of these interviews, set reports, incredible pictures, and audio downloads of some of these interviews.

Trust me, it’s gonna be good times.
