Let me set the scene for you: Seven twenty-something people sitting around on a Saturday night playing games that require you to have fun bubbly drinks in your hand. Everything has been hopping for the past couple of hours, but right now everyone is silent.
They’re all gathered around the warming glow the flat screen television’s warming glow, staring rapt at one person on screen: Steven Lynch. For 23 minutes lynch serenades the group with stories about Jesus’ much hipper brother Craig, Satan, his Nazi girlfriend, and how he likes black girls over “crackers.”
The DVD they’re watching is The Best of Comedy Central Presents Uncensored II, and it can keep a room rolling on the floor for over four hours.
With big comedy names like Dave Attell, Mike Birbiglia, Frank Caliendo, Zach Galifianakis, Stephen Lynch, Patton Oswalt, Nick Swardson and Daniel Tosh; this DVD delivers tons of laughs.
The best part about this DVD, though, is that it is uncensored. If you’re a fan of four-letter-words and hate the FCC, then these sets are for you.
Some of the beauty of combining these particular comedians is that you get a little bit of everything. Attell and Birbiglia deliver four-letter rants at blazing speeds. If you like Dick and Fart jokes they give you everything you would ever need. Honestly, Attell can’t have a set without mentioning his penis, or a midget’s penis, or a horse’s penis…you get the point. If you ever saw his show insomniac, you would understand exactly where he gets his material.
Galifianakis gives you some of the stranger humor with puns and even has a bit at the end of his set that draws on a 12-piece choir. Unfortunately, he is also clad in a leotard (gross). He does draw on some of his more popular pieces with a third of his set at the piano.
As mentioned, Lynch will serenade you with everything that is wrong in this world, and the afterlife. Oswalt is a holdover from more of the straightforward and abrasive world the Dennis Lerry paved for them. Swardson and Tosh take some of the more physical comedy and do it very, very well.
Since this is the second coming of comedians from Comedy Central, it does feel like they are reaching for good acts. The Best of Comedy Central Presents had heavyweights like Lewis Black, Carlos Mencia and Jeff Dunham. So if you’re expecting the same consistency over the entire DVD, don’t be disappointed. Still, it’s a solid DVD worth renting or watching a few times, and trade in for something with more replay value.
I give it an A for Attell.
