Never has a movie been so aptly titled.
This “Movie” movie is the latest, and worst, in a series of ever-degrading movies that spoof - and oftentimes, simply steal scenes from - popular films.
Disaster Movie tells the story of a group of a young group of friends, inexplicably including Juno, who are forced to weather every disaster known to man. Along the way, they meet dozens upon dozens of movie star lookalikes, from Iron Man to Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City. Some pop up for a one-liner, while others (like Juno) stick around for the majority of the film.
The odd thing about this latest installment is that it simply gives up on actually parodying any movies - not only are most of the jokes and lines simply ripped from the art that the film claims to spoof, but the filmmakers seem to have decided that the viewers shouldn’t have had to actually see the parodied films - all of the “humor” can be easily understood simply by viewing the trailers of the film.
The film attempts to introduce a romantic theme, between the film’s main character, Will, a commitaphobe, and his girlfriend, Amy, but when character’s are inexplicably dying left and right, it’s hard to care about anyone.
This film is truly difficult to reccomend to anyone. It tries way too hard (the High School Musical spoof is uninspired, to say the least) and at points becomes embarrasing to watch - one begins to pity for the writers and performers in the film. This reviewer found himself having to pause the film at times, simply to shake the welling shame that comes from watching a movie this poor.
Even worse, some jokes in the film literally make no sense, including a scene towards the beginning where a group bikini-clad women run by the heroes, and immediately die. For no reason.

Disaster Movie is a train-wreck throughout, and it is hard to believe that this poor of film could ever be written by professionals, much less produced.
SOUND/PICTURE
The film looks good. It is displayed in a 16x9 format. Your audio options consist of 5.1 Dolby Digital Ex or 2.0 Dolby Digital. English and Spanish subtitles are avaliable, as well as English closed captioning.
EXTRAS
Included on the disk are some cast/crew commentary, a few featurettes, as well as sing-alongs to the two musical numbers in the film.
When a movie is this horrendous, though, it’s difficult to care, as the bonus features simply deliver more of the horrendous humor of the film to viewer’s eyes.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Disaster Movie is a dismal, difficult to stomach attempt at “comedy” that will make even the most hardened of viewers shudder at its vulgarity and unoriginality. It is an embarrasing attempt to entice a few cheap laughs. This film is nothing short of a disaster.
Disaster Movie on DVD is unrated. It has a runtime of 88 minutes.
