Amazon Studios has released the Elvis & Nixon trailer, and it looks about as goofy as you’d expect. Kevin Spacey leads the comedy as President Richard Nixon while Michael Shannon steps in as the king of rock ‘n’ roll, Elvis Presley. The Liza Johnson-directed film will cover their infamous, awkward meeting on December 21, 1970 during which Presley asked Nixon to be sworn in as an undercover Federal Agent.

The film could easily dissolve into an extended SNL sketch where both actors ham it up playing their larger-than-life roles, and yet part of me doesn’t really mind that it’s cartoonish. The prospect of watching Michael Shannon doing Elvis Presley is too enticing to pass up, and it looks like he’s having a blast playing the part. We don’t get as much of Spacey’s Nixon here in this trailer, but that should be a good time too. I don’t expect Elvis & Nixon to blow me away, but it could still end up being delightful.

Check out the Elvis & Nixon trailer below. The film opens this April, and also stars Alex Pettyfer, Johnny Knoxville, Colin Hanks, Ashley Benson, Evan Peters, and Sky Ferreira.
