Every once in awhile a film comes along that is completely unexpected, new, funny, honest and really worth your time. The film I am praising completely is Little Miss Sunshine, which opened selectively a few days ago, and is expanding in the weeks ahead.

Perhaps you may have heard of the film from last years Sundance Film Festival. This was the movie that FOX Searchlight paid a record 10.5 million dollars to acquire for distribution, and the film that everyone was talking about after the festival ended. Of course it did help that this was Steve Carell’s first film after The 40 year Old Virgin. Having him play the suicidal brother was a major coo for directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who got him interested in the role prior to his becoming an A-list star.

The great thing about having Steve Carell in this role is more people are going to see this film. While his performance is excellent, the reason the film is special is the entire cast. Each performer is given great dialogue and each has a role that is completely intertwined with the rest of the cast.

At this point you may ask, what is Little Miss Sunshine about?

While I would love to not tell you anything, having you go to the theater with just blind faith, I realize for most people that will not work.

Little Miss Sunshine is about a family from Albuquerque with nothing in common. Each person is dealing with life’s dreams and aspirations, with the only tie that binds them together being that they are a family. Over the course of the film screenwriter Michael Arndt manages to weave a tale that allows us to see what each family member is dealing with, and where they are trying to go. I know I am being a bit vague, but the film deserves to be seen with as little knowledge as possible. Okay, one last bit, it does involve an old VW bus and a beauty pageant.

Anyway, when you listen to any of the interviews (except Steve Carell) you are going to hear one person asking questions who is seriously one of the worst people I have ever had the misfortune to share a room with. His questions are not only dumb, but are a complete waste of everyone’s time. After listening to any of the interviews, trust me, you are going to know who I am talking about. Since I am sure I am going to have to share a room in the future with this asshole, I unfortunately will not say his name or mention who he writes for… however I can offer the audio for all of you, that way you can all listen to his incompetence on your own.

During the interviews spoilers are discussed. If you want to go in and be surprised, you should probably listen to the interviews’ after seeing the movie.
