Johnny Depp Will Play Tonto in Disney's THE LONE RANGER

Disney Studios hosted an all day preview of their upcoming projects at the Kodak Theatre today and the event ended with a surprise guest. Johnny Depp walked out onstage, in full Jack Sparrow garb, to the martial beat of "The William Tell Overture." That particular tune also serves as the theme song to "The Lone Ranger" - see where they were going with that?
Though early internet reports stated that this stunt signaled that Depp would be playing the lead in the Disney-based, Bruckheimer-produced retelling of "The Lone Ranger," according to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp will actually be playing the role of the Ranger's side-kick Tonto-- otherwise known as the brains of the duo. Why on Earth they needed the man to dress up like Jack Sparrow to make this announcement is anyone's guess.
Also confirmed at Wednesday's Disney event: Johnny Depp will indeed be serving up tea in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" revamp. As reported by just about every film site a few months back, Depp has claimed the almost too-perfect role of The Mad Hatter—though, honestly, he would have made a bitchin' Red Queen as well.
So there you have it—Johnny Depp is now officially Disney's whore. Let's hope he used a dental dam when the studio went down on him earlier today because God only knows where their mouths have been.
