While we here at Collider usually aren't in the business of reporting rumors, the hard fact that Johnny Depp has signed on to play Tonto in Disney's upcoming adaptation of "The Lone Ranger" is already leading us down a very strange road. Why would Depp, one of the biggest stars working today, agree to play a sidekick (and, judging by the original TV show, not a very interesting one)?
The answer might be in who he'd get to work with: according to the semi-tabloid "The Sun", an anonymous insider reported: "George is very keen — he’s been trying to do a movie with Johnny for a long time. He thinks they’ll make the perfect on-screen partnership." A film with that much talent on screen would be something to behold and as we've seen with their previous works, writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio know how to make fun banter between their lead characters.
We'll have more news on this as it develops. Who knows: the next big role could be Colin Farrell as Silver.
