The Happening IS happening
In my opinion, one of the most genius shows ever made.
why i think it points to the global financial crisis?
-It all begins in New York
(the financial capital of the world).
-The disappearance of bees.
(bees being the element of wealth transfer and growth and their disappearance in fold-ups of banks, investment houses, etc).
-The Cause of the toxin that switches off the part of the brain that keeps us from harming ourselves, which leaves people killing themselves
(any economical crisis being the most important suicide factor).
-Phenomenon of people standing still and walking backwards
(people stop to think, put a stop to many things, and often take a step backwards in life).
-In the movie, the toxin hits first the highly populated big cities, then spreads to all connected populations.
(Exactly the steps a crisis takes).
-The last victim to be hit was self-sufficient
(stating that autarky can never be achieved)
And lastly, the people that didn't get infected (or the ones that survive and pull through) eventually go back to living as per normal...and then at some point, it starts again in some other place.

This Movie Was So Insulting, I Produced a Parody
From the concept, to the dialogue, to the characters, to the execution -- this movie was unbelievably terrible. I was so insulted by the stupidity of the film that I actually felt compelled to produce a parody. Check it out here:

Did they even screen this movie?? What the f% were they thinking??!?!
This review is right on the money.
Anyone who says, "It wasn't that bad" is CLEARLY out of touch with reality. I am a huge fan of Mark Wahlberg, and a former fan of shaymalamadingdong. ok well, 6th sense era. What in the HELL happened to this director?? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???? did anyone even bother to watch it before they took it to the big screen? After the movie was over, i observed other people sitting nearby in the theater groaning a depressed, "C'mon honey... let's gets GO"

Shyamalan is Happening Again
I know there are lot of bad reviews on this movie. But seriously guys you have to see this one for yourself. Leave behind the memories from Sixth Sense and Signs and forget all the reactions you got from others on this one. So, clear your mind and steer your car to the movie hall to see “The Happening”.
I am afraid I can’t say that the plot was great or how great the starting or the ending was. But, I was thrilled by these great moments thrown at me one after another. I almost stepped into the shoes of the characters and was reacting to every sound I heard. The ride was so thrilling and gripping that it kept me glued to my seat from start to end. I didn’t try to think of the story or the theory as to what was happening. I was lost in the moment of every scene unfolding on screen.
As always with Shyamalan movies, the background score was a character in this movie and James Newton Howard again proves his command over the medium. Actor Mark Wahlberg was literally breathing the lead character and keeps you with him throughout. He had the entire movie on his shoulders along with the background score and the two of them together delivered the goods for me. The humour has been woven beautifully into the screenplay. While the audience is rejoicing a lighter moment on the screen, a scene makes the audience go “ah!” followed by a pin drop silence. That’s when you realize the power of cinema and the magic of Shyamalan.
The only disappointment was that the movie came to an end really fast. It’s almost like you got into a roller coaster ride that you are enjoying as it goes faster and faster and suddenly comes to an halt. I wanted to ride more. Shyamalan’s “The Village” and “The Lady In The Water” didn’t work for me. But, “The Happening” was really happening for me.
So, Finally all I have to say is the movie may or may not leave a impression on you, but you definitely don’t want to miss the experience of being part of “The Happening”.

Reviewers Piss Me Off !!!
Have just seen this movie down in little old New Zealand and I can tell you that this movie is not actually that bad! ( as described above in 15,000 words or less) in fact I'm sure the review is longer than the script. Yes the review has spoiled most of it for you but Mr S. still manages to deliver something with a bit of atmosphere and sense of foreboding....yes it is cheesy at times as most 50's type B grade movies were( which Mr S obviously pays homage too)...We are quick to critisize a movie that doesn't deliver everything to us on a plate.....I enjoyed because I went into this movie NOT expecting another 'The Sixth Sense' and I'm glad I did.....

Symbology?!
Wow, I'm sorry, but I take it that Moondust never saw the Boondock Saints. It's SYMBOLISM. . . But yeah, this looked pretty good and I was kinda excited to see the happening, but unfortunately I'm afraid I'll probably skip out on this one. I mean, I have to look at/read enough "deeper layers" with my girl friend, why would I want to do that in a movie? Guess I just have to wait for Hellboy and the Dark Knight . . .

Expect another critical gangbang for Shyamalan
I have to agree with critic Jeff Reichert who exclaimed," he outsized critical gangbang which met the release of M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady in the Water bespeaks of a community of writers gripped by the worst form of pile-on groupthink imaginable." Shyamalan's movies may not live up to live up to a self-proclaimed critic's unachievable expectations but his movies are certainly not THAT bad and most certainly misunderstood.
For example, "impriv1" above states that, "The Village was nothing more than a pathetic group of whiners who couldn't deal with the real world, so they chose to (not only) live in the woods and travel back to a time period that even the pilgrims would find insane." Obviously he did not understand "The Village", especially not metaphorically. (Hint: It's about today. About terrorism and the people who use fear to control society. Heard an orang/yellow/red alert lately?) Impriv further states: "It is no surprise to hear that Lady in the Water was horrible, but I couldn't say firsthand because I didn't even bother renting it." It may not have been Shyamalan's best but it certainly didn't suck. It was a watchable film, well acted and directed. As I am sure "The Happening" will be a watchable, entertaining film but not necessarily his best.
Watching his movies and reading the critiques makes me wonder if there is some sort of conspiracy against Shyamalan. I remember when "Lady in the Water" premiered, a critic gave a 1 star rating and gave "Scary Movie 4" 2.5 stars!! How can you compare these two films on the same scale??? The critics seem to attack him personally rather than the films. Something is rotten and maybe has always has been rotten in Hollywood.

Copernicus...?
Actually Moondust, Ever since the third century BC, pretty much everybody with any education at all knew that the earth was spherical. The idea that Copernicus 'discovered' it is a common myth. Copernicus got into trouble for proving that the earth was not at the centre of the universe. That too was also common knowledge, but was still regarded as a heresy by the Christian church. And as for Shyamalan? Someone please change his contract, so that he can only direct other peoples scripts. His own writing is just execrable.

deeper layers?
Moondust, did you really compare Copernicus and Einstein to M. Night Shyamalan? I've been accused of taking movies too seriously in the past, but really? Two of the most important men in the history of the world to the director of Signs?
And, yeah, I did create an account just to express my dismay. Who takes movies too seriously now?

Shyamalan has become my synonym for disappointment
I was a fan of Shyamalan's movies up until the ending scene of Signs. Signs kept me drawn in up until the ending, which was a huge let-down. Then came The Village, and it has been downhill from there. The Village was nothing more than a pathetic group of whiners who couldn't deal with the real world, so they chose to (not only) live in the woods and travel back to a time period that even the pilgrims would find insane. It is no surprise to hear that Lady in the Water was horrible, but I couldn't say firsthand because I didn't even bother renting it. It's also no shocker that The Happening is following in its footsteps; at this point, if a movie is made by Shyamalan, that is all the reason I need to not watch it.

Deeper layers
Movies by Shyamalan always have deeper layers. He seems to understand symbology. Taking his movies literally can easily lead to disappointment. I just wonder if the critic above has understand the deeper layers of The Happening. Lady In The Water is a very weird movie if you can't see deeper layers and from different perspectives. I am pretty sure this new movie by Shyamalan has more to it than just a weird story. And let's face it, it's not unthinkable that Shyamalan is just massively misunderstood. Lots of geniuses in the history of our earth have been. When Copernicus told the world that the earth was a sphere instead of a flat disc they killed him. I agree with Einstein on this. He said that there are two things indefinite: the universe and the stupidity of people.

Hardly a hack...
I've known of Night since he sent out WIDE AWAKE as a spec script. The movie was AWFUL but a lot of that is from studio interference (Rosie O'Donnell, anyone?). His LABOR OF LOVE script is STILL one of the best things I've ever read and SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE and SIGNS all have a lot to them. He's a GREAT shooter. Night's problem is he believes his own hype and seems DETERMINED to re-invent SIXTH SENSE. He shouldn't. He's maybe the best shooter since Spielberg but Spielberg didn't write anything he shot between CLOSE ENOUNTERS and A.I. He may be an arrogant dick who needs to film someone else's script for a change, but he is HARDLY a hack.

Not surprising
Great review. I love seeing a hack like Shyamalan get raked over the critical coals. I saw some version of the trailer to this heap before 'Iron Man' and the crowd collectively did a spit-take whenever Wahlberg spoke. Good times. I have an idea: NO MORE SHYAMALAN FILMS

Whoa!
I sincerely hope this movie doesn't turn out to be a disappointment.
I didn't like The Village... but I loved SIGNS and thought M. Night was great in it. Lady In The Water was 'meh'.
The Happening sounds like a bad version of The Triffids. Hopefully it will be good though. I'll remain positive.
