Exclusive: Producer Frank Marshall Video Interview

If you don’t know Frank Marshall’s name, you really need to check out his IMDB page and look over his resume. As a producer, he’s made over 80 movies and they’re not the small indies you haven’t seen. He’s helped to make the “Indiana Jones” movies, “The Warriors”, “Gremlins”, “Back to the Future”, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “The Sixth Sense”, The Bourne Movies, and a ton of other films that you probably love.

So when I got an opportunity to speak with him at the recent “Curious Case of Benjamin Button” press junket, I could’ve spent hours talking about his past work. But while it would’ve made me extremely happy to do that (and maybe a few of you), I decided to spend my limited time focusing on his upcoming projects like “The Last Airbender”, the next Bourne movie, Indiana Jones 5, and of course talk about the reason he was even there in the first place… “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.

As most of you know, “Benjamin Button” is director David Fincher’s latest film and I thought it was great. It’s the film that stars Brad Pitt as a man who ages backwards. For more info on the movie, click here. And for Matt’s review, click here.

But let’s get to the reason you’re here. Since the interview with Frank is pretty long, I’ve divided it into two parts. Like I always do, I’ve listed what we talked about above each part.

If you’re a fan of the Bourne movies, you’ll be happy to know he thinks they’ve figured out the premise of the next movie and they hope to be filming at the end of next summer - with a completed script.

And regarding “The Last Airbender”, he says they’ll start to shoot in March 2009 and says they movie will be released in late 2010 or early 2011. He also said they’ll be filming in Greenland, Philadelphia and they might film in the Far East

Finally, we of course talked about another “Indiana Jones” movie and a LOT more - including a project he wants to direct and we even covered IMAX and digital filmmaking.

Trust me, it’s a great interview.

And with that, here’s Frank Marshall. Of course I have to say thank you to Frank for agreeing to sit down with me when it wasn’t scheduled and it was extremely last minute. It’s much appreciated.

Frank Marshall part 1

  • He talks about how long it’s taken to bring Benjamin Button to the screen
  • Does he think David Fincher was the guy to make this film
  • We talk about the digital revolution in film – I ask about 3D films
  • I ask how key was the digital camera for making Benjamin Button
  • Says he wants to direct a project on Django Reinhardt – a jazz guitarist
  • The Last Airbender talk
  • Says the movie is the first year (I’d imagine origin movie) and says they’ve sketched out movie two and three
  • Indiana Jones 5th film talk – I ask what are the chances of making another sequel

Frank Marshall Part 2

  • Bourne 4 talk – what’s the status and do they all think they can come up with a great story for the 4th film. He says they are extremely close
  • He thinks they might be filming at the end of summer 2009
  • Is Universal trying to get it out for summer 2010
  • He says they’re not rushing the script and they won’t make it till they have the script ready to go
  • IMAX talk
  • Frank talks about what else they’re producing
  • More Bourne talk
  • More The Last Airbender talk – says they’re starting to shoot in March 2009 and says they movie will be released in late 2010 or early 2011
  • He also says they’ll be filming in Greenland, Philadelphia and they might film in the Far East
