ENTERTAINMENT INTERVIEWS
Stephen Susco – Exclusive Sundance Video Interview
2/5/2008

At this year’s Sundance Film Festival, I managed to land exclusive video interviews with a ton of people. The only problem with all these interviews was…it’s taken me a long time to get them all online.

Thankfully, I spent the past few days editing the rest of them. What that means for all of you is…every day this week you can expect some great stuff. On some days I’ll post just one (like tonight), and on others, a few. Anyway, let’s get to the reason you’re here.

Posted below is my extended interview with Stephen Susco. If you don’t know his name, he wrote “The Grudge,” “The Grudge 2,” a movie at this year’s Sundance Festival called “Red,” and he’s got a bunch of other things on the horizon.

In fact, one of the things he announced during the interview was that he’s developing a TV show based on the 1990 movie “Flatliners.” If you aren’t familiar with the movie, the film was directed by Joel Schumacher and it starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt. The movie was about a group of medical students that would have their heart stopped on purpose and then get revived after being dead for an extended time. After experiencing death, they would wake up and have very intense visions. And the further they’d go, the more the visions would mess with them. It was a cool movie and one that did well at the box office.

Anyway, during the interview Stephen said he’s developing the movie as a TV show with Michael Douglas and that the goal is to create a 2 hour pilot and then a one hour show. He said they’re still figuring it all out, so no network is known or when it’ll actually get made, just that they’re working on it. But he did say it takes place in the same universe as the movie…so it opens up the possibility for guest spots!

Of course we also talked about a lot of other things…like his movie "Red" that played at this year’s Sundance Festival. It’s a solid interview and one that’s worth your time.

As usual, I listed what we talked about above each part of the interview. Due to the length, the interview is divided up into 2 parts. Of course, a big thanks to Stephen for giving me some of his time. And now…enjoy the interview.

Stephen Susco - Part 1

  • Sundance talk.
  • Red talk. How he came to the project and what it’s about
  • What was his reaction when he heard that Brian Cox was going to be in it.
  • What else he is working on. He talks about Dibbuk Box.
  • He also talks about a new Flatliners TV show!
  • Also Zero Dark Thirty talk. He gives a synopsis. And some Jacob’s Ladder talk.

Stephen Susco - Part 2

  • Writer’s strike talk
  • Back to the Flatliners TV show. He explains how Michael Douglas is involved.
  • He says a 2 hour pilot and then an hour show. He calls it in the vein of Lost. He then explains more about the show.
