Jennifer Carpenter Exclusive Video Interview – QUARANTINE
10/11/2008

Opening this weekend is “Quarantine,” and it’s the American remake of the 2007 Spanish horror film "Rec.” In the film, reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman, Scott (Steve Harris), are assigned to cover a night shift with a pair of firemen at a Los Angeles fire station.  After an uneventful evening, a 911 distress call in the middle of the night takes them to a small apartment building downtown.  Police officers are already on the scene in response to bloodcurdling screams coming from an apartment on the third floor.  Having stumbled onto a breaking story, Angela and Scott are determined to get it all on tape.

Unfortunately, what starts off as a routine 911 call quickly turns into a nightmare for everyone involved, as the building is quarantined by the CDC and no one is allowed out.  As everyone starts to wonder what exactly is going on, the people inside the building start to get attacked. The only evidence of what exactly happened is the tape made by the two reporters…

Anyway, to help promote the film, I got to interview the cast as a reporter for Collider’s partner site Omelete. The interview below is with Jennifer Carpenter and we discuss the unusual ways this film was made.

And if you missed my interview with Jay Hernandez and Columbus Short, click here.

Jennifer Carpenter

  • Since the movie was shot in order – which is highly unusual – I ask if that helped her performance
  • She screams a lot in the movie, I ask how hard was it to keep that up
  • For this question…listen as I stumble to try and ask about shooting on the Sony lot…and how they built the set
  • I ask about the long takes in the movie (some are over 5 minutes) and how was that as an actor
  • Dexter talk – it seems like the show is getting bigger and more popular, I ask if she’s noticed
