Rodrigo Santoro Exclusive Video Interview – I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS

One of the standout films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival was writer/director’s Glenn Ficarra & John Requa “I Love You Phillip Morris”. While the pressure was on for these new director’s as they had Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor, Rodrigo Santoro and Leslie Mann involved, I can tell you the film absolutely delivers on both ends of the spectrum. Not only is the film laugh out loud funny, but by the end you might even have tears in your eyes. Trust me, while the film takes tons of random turns, each road traveled eventually gets you back to the heart of the film…. Steven Russell’s (Jim Carrey) love of Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor).

While I don’t know who bought the film and when you’ll be able to see it, I’m beyond confident that some studio will pick it up as Jim’s performance was fantastic and it could be award worthy.

Anyway, while at Sundance I was able to do a great interview with Rodrigo Santoro about “I Love You Phillip Morris”. In the film, Rodrigo plays the first boyfriend of Jim Carey and he’s great in the role.

During our interview we talked about everything – from being at Sundance to other projects he's involved with. If you’re a fan of Rodrigo’s, I promise you’ll love the interview.

Finally, a big thank you to Erico from Omelete for providing me a few of the questions. In case you didn’t know, Rodrigo is a huge celebrity in Brazil and since our partner website is in San Paolo…the guys at Omelete were very happy I landed this interview.

Rodrigo Santoro – part 1

  • I joke around with him about not speaking during the press conference
  • Love Actually
  • What was it about Phillip Morris that made you want to do the project
  • How much preparation did you do for the role
  • We talk about how people at Sundance put films first. Has he been able to experience it firsthand
  • Has he been able to enjoy being more anonymous in America
  • We talk about the celebrity culture in both America and Brazil
  • He talks about his character in The Post Grad Survival Guide

Rodrigo Santoro – part 2

  • Che talk – we talk about working with Steven Soderbergh and the RED camera
  • I ask about working with Jim Carrey and doing a lot of takes after doing Che and not doing a lot of takes
  • Do you see another Brazilian actor or director making the transition from Brazil to America
  • Oscar talk – how important is it to him and to Brazil
  • What else does he have coming up
