Right before the November Presidential election, I was invited, along with a few other journalists, to the set of “Rules of Engagement”. While Collider has been invited to the set of many movies, this was the first time we’d ever gotten an invite to visit a TV show, so I’ll admit to being a bit nervous. Thankfully, all the actors couldn’t have been more gracious and happy to be talking, so I found the entire experience a lot of fun. Also, I’ve been a fan of David Spade and Patrick Warburton for a long time, so it was really cool to get to talk with both of them.

But let me back up a second. Some of you might not be familiar with the show.

What you need to know is “Rules of Engagement” returns on Monday, March 2nd at 9:30 PM as part of CBS’s highly-rated comedy block, which includes “The Big Bang Theory”, “How I Met Your Mother”, and “Two and a Half Men”. The show is about the different phases of male/female relationships, as seen the through the eyes of an engaged couple, a long-time married pair and a single guy on the prowl.

Patrick Warburton and Megyn Price play the married couple, Oliver Hudson and Bianca Kajlich play the engaged couple, and David Spade plays the single guy on the prowl. In addition to the people I’ve already mentioned, the show is adding Orlando Jones as Patrick Warburton’s new gay friend, and Adhir Kalyan as David Spade’s assistant.

Anyway, I could go on and on about what it was like to stand on the set or walk around the different parts of the stage….but that’s not why you’re all here. Instead let me quickly introduce what you’re about to watch.

Posted below (and on page 2) are all the video interviews I did on my set visit. If you’re a fan of the show, I think you’ll really like hearing all the actors talk about what’s coming up this season. Also, I got to do my interviews on the kitchen set, so you might see a tour of what’s really there in one of these interviews....

Finally, please remember these interviews were recorded last November (I’ve been under embargo), so when I ask questions about the Presidential Election…that’s why. And if you’d like to laugh, make sure you watch the Patrick Warburton and Orlando Jones interview. Again, “Rules of Engagement” returns on Monday, March 2nd at 9:30 PM on CBS.

David Spade

  • Before the interview started we were talking about my Radio Shack microphone….which led David to talking about his stand up and how he first started
  • I ask him what is it really like behind the scenes on Rules of Engagement
  • I ask him about his thoughts on the election (this was recorded right before the Presidential Election)
  • For the final question I ask if he has anything he wants to tell the fans about the upcoming season

Patrick Warburton and Orlando Jones

  • I ask what’s been going on behind the scenes this season…Orlando says Rules is Seth McFarlane’s favorite show…(we had been talking about Family Guy before the cameras started rolling)
  • Orlando talks about his character…he plays Patrick’s new friend that happens to be gay
  • Patrick and Orlando then riff back and forth for a few minutes…it’s quite funny
  • I ask if either of them ever get nervous in front of the live studio audience
  • At the end I ask if they have any final words for all of you…Orlando says CBS should cancel Worst Week….

Megyn Price

  • She gives us a tour of the kitchen set
  • I ask where are they in the season and what’s been happening
  • What’s Patrick been like to work with this season
  • Has she been able to take any of her own real life and use it on the show
  • She talks about working with the new guest stars on this season
