Michael Stahl-David – Exclusive Slamdance Video Interview

If you’ve been reading the site these past few weeks, then you know I mentioned how many video interviews I did while attending this year’s Sundance and Slamdance film festivals. In the past 2 weeks I’ve posted video interviews with Chuck Palahniuk, Aaron Yoo, Olivia Wilde, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson and a lot more. And now it’s time for the next one – Michael Stahl David.

In case you don’t know his name, Michael is the lead in Paramount’s monster movie “Cloverfield,” and he also had a movie in Slamdance that was named best narrative feature. The film is called “The Project” and it’s about three first-time filmmakers that set out to make a documentary about the hardships of inner-city life. Stories merge, relationships corrode and the filmmakers become participants in the underground world they set out to document.

Anyway, since I had a decent amount of time with Michael I was able to cover everything. We talked about Slamdance, his movie “The Project,” why he got into acting, and of course that monster movie “Cloverfield.” It’s a solid interview and one that I think you’ll really like.

Due to the length of the interview, I divided it up into two parts. As usual, I listed what we talked about above each section. So without any further words from me….here’s Michael.

Michael Stahl-David - Part 1

  • Slamdance/Sundance talk
  • I ask how he got into acting
  • Black Donnelly’s talk
  • He talks about The Project – his movie in Slamdance
  • Since all of his projects have taken place in the New York area..I ask if shooting there is a prerequisite for taking a project
  • What was it about The Project that made him take the role
  • We talk about improve on both Cloverfield and The Project

Michael Stahl-David - Part 2

  • Has he seen a screening of The Project with an audience
  • What is it like to be in a #1 movie
  • Cloverfield talk
  • Was it weird to always be looking in the lens while filming
  • I ask how the writers strike has affected him and what does he have coming up
