I love that the biggest question we have about Michael Mann's upcoming film, "Public Enemies" isn't whether or not it will be good. It clearly looks amazing with a stellar cast, interesting material, and prevalent themes (in this economy, America can once again cheer for a bank robber). The question is whether or not it will look amazing. That is to say, will this digitally shot film work on the big screen? Some have argued that the digital-look doesn't mesh with the time period while others seem to be digging the glossy sheen and glamour of the era, or as this new trailer puts it: "The Golden Age of Crime". This new trailer for "Public Enemies" [via MSN] plays up the drama far more than the first trailer which put the emphasis on action. It's almost a complete 180 and there's a question if folks want heavy drama in the middle of their summer movie season but audiences seem to love Johnny Depp and Christian Bale so hopefully it will find some success when it hits theatres on July 1st.

His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone -- from his girlfriend Billie Frechette to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger' gang -- later including Baby Face Nelson and Alvin Karpis -- thrilled many, J. Edgar Hoover made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Melvin Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI." However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals -- from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti -- were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.
