Fox Still Needs USED GUYS

Back in 2006 when we were all living fun and fancy-free, Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey were on tap to star in the comedy "Used Guys" with Jay Roach set to direct for 20th Century Fox.  The film would have been about a future where women buy and sell male clones like used cars.  Stiller and Carrey would have been obsolete models trying to find their masculinity.  You may have missed the film on account of Fox pulling the plug and it not happening.

Stiller hasn't given up the ghost and, according to THR, he wants to re-start the project with "Little Miss Sunshine" directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris at the helm.  Furthermore, the story would focus more on the relationship between Stiller's character and Reese Witherspoon as an owner of the clone because that sounds less interesting and if there's anything that interests Fox, it's less interesting movies.

In all fairness, this re-tooled attempt is to account for financial considerations because the first time around the film cost $112 million with Stiller, Carrey, and Roach picking up 27% of the back-end.  But Fox has a good relationship with Stiller and it may be an even better relationship depending on how "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithonian" does when it hits theatres on May 22nd.  Its only competition that weekend is some stupid sounding movies about killer robots in the future.  Who wants to see that when they could see Ben Stiller having wacky adventures with a giant Abraham Lincoln!
