Whether the film is successful or not, someone should end up writing a book about Marvel's plan to create the ultimate spin-off film in "The Avengers". It would be on thing if "The Avengers" films came first and then spun off into individual character films but to do it the other way and try to build the individual characters into one massive team flick is a level of ambition rarely seen in Hollywood.
But Kevin Feige, President of Production at Marvel Studios, is on top of it. He recently spoke with Empire about where the pieces are currently placed in getting these films moving toward the goal of "The Avengers" movie.
On "Thor": We will probably be having cast announcements in the next month or so on Thor. We’re looking to cast Loki and Odin soon, and the main female role. And we’ll also hopefully have lockdown shortly, gearing towards the beginning of production, which will be early next year. So I think there will be a lot of announcements between now and then.
On "The Avengers": Zak Penn is already on board The Avengers [as writer] and he’s spending a lot of his time looking into what we’re doing with Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, seeing how we’re tying it all together. And he’s beginning to outline the script now – he’ll be doing that over the summer.
That's highly impressive because it means that there's also a plan with "Captain America" in place and should leave us all asking when we're going to start seeing movement on that film (also, if they could just call it "Captain America" instead of "The First Avenger: Captain America", that would be great; thanks.)
