Kevin Spacey Will Play Lobbyist Jack Abramoff in CASINO JACK

I'm not always sure if the size of a crime necessarily relates to its dramatic quality.  Jack Abramoff was the most corrupt and despicable lobbyist of the modern era (until someone worse inevitably comes along in the next three to five years) but I'm not sure there's a lot of dramatic meat to be devoured from a guy who essentially found a new way to rip off Native Americans (and you thought there weren't anymore!) and later found himself in jail.

But apparently screenwriter Norman Snider and director George Hickenlooper have found something worthwhile in the story and Kevin Spacey has found it too since Variety is reporting that the actor will play the disgraced lobbyist (well that's just redundant) in "Casino Jack".  While I know that Spacey can play slimy and unlikable like few others, I'm curious as to whether or not Americans really want to see a movie about corrupt Washington insiders when they can see them on the news for free.  Also, it's not like the Abramoff scandal exactly set the mainstream on fire since it was one of the least sexy scandals of all-time.  Now if we could get Spacey playing Miss California in a film about the shocking revelation that she showed her nips before winning her venerable crown, then this could be a summer tentpole lined with Oscar potential.

In the meantime, we'll have to settle with Spacey's upcoming flicks, "The Men Who Stare at Goats" with George Clooney and the father-daughter comedy, "Father of Invention".
