Are Jerry Bruckheimer and the PIRATES gang going to tackle THE LONE RANGER?

For decades, the rule in Hollywood was simple:

Don’t make fucking pirate movies.

Most people followed the rules. The people who decided to do otherwise made such classics as "Cutthroat Island" and Roman Polanski's "Pirates." Whoops. They made the mistakes the others learned from. Then Bruckheimer said, “fuck that. I’ll make what I want.” And what he wanted ended up being one of the biggest trilogies in film history.

Today, the rule is this:

People don’t go see westerns.

Well, I guess Bruckheimer still isn’t listening. And that’s not a bad thing as he may be trying to revive another possibly dead genre with a new take on…"The Lone Ranger." You may have heard of it. It’s one of those big properties that we all kind of expected to be redone someday, but did you really think it would become the next big Verbinski/Elliot/Rossio joint? I didn’t. But I’m glad it seems like that’s going to happen.

Bringing in the director of the "Pirates" trilogy, Gore Verbinski, and the writers responsible for making it work, Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, is a great idea. We all know that Johnny Depp is a big reason why the original film surprised planet earth, but did you know that prior to Elliot Rossio’s involvement, the film didn’t contain any supernatural elements?

Whether you like the trilogy or not, you have to admit, it would be a totally different set of movies if it was reality based. What if it didn’t have skeleton pirates? Or a squid faced dude? It may have been "Cutthroat Island 2" with a better cast and production value. With this crew involved, they may try and change things up with the western genre in the same way they remixed the pirate genre. This may be pretty interesting.

According to my source, there should be a trade break following the modest weekend "Pirates 3" has in store.
