Two trailers that are worth watching have been put online and they’re about as different as they can be. The first one is the Steve Carell comedy “Get Smart” and the second is the Fox/Walden Media fantasy “The Dark is Rising.”
“Get Smart” is the remake of the 60’s show and the cast is huge - Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Alan Arkin, and Terence Stamp. And while the teaser trailer doesn’t show that much, you can get a feel for what the filmmakers are trying to do and I’m completely onboard.

GET SMART
Synopsis: In the all-new action comedy “Get Smart,” Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is on a mission to thwart the latest plot for world domination by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS.
When the headquarters of U.S. spy agency Control is attacked and the identities of its agents compromised, the Chief (Alan Arkin) has no choice but to promote his ever-eager analyst Maxwell Smart, who has always dreamt of working in the field alongside stalwart superstar Agent 23 (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). Smart is partnered instead with the only other agent whose identity has not been compromised: the lovely-but-lethal veteran Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway). As Smart and 99 get closer to unraveling KAOS’ master plan—and each other—they discover that key KAOS operative Siegfried (Terence Stamp) and his sidekick Shtarker (Kenneth Davitian) are scheming to cash in with their network of terror. Given little field experience and even less time, Smart—armed with nothing but a few spy-tech gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm—must defeat KAOS if he is to save the day.
“Get Smart” opens nationwide on June 20, 2008.

The other trailer is for “The Dark is Rising.”

And while it seems like every year we get a movie about a teenager who doesn’t fit in and it ends up that he or she is extremely special and has a gift/plan/special power/whatever, with Ian McShane and Christopher Eccleston in the movie, I’m definitely checking it out. What can I say…I’m a huge fan of both actors. Also... the trailer looks pretty good.
And before you get to the trailer… if you missed my video interview with Amelia Warner, one of the stars of the film, you can watch it here.
THE DARK IS RISING
The first film adaptation of Susan Cooper's acclaimed "The Dark Is Rising Sequence" tells the story of Will Stanton, a boy whose everyday life is turned upside down when he learns that he is the last of the "Old Ones," a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark. As he uncovers a series of mysterious clues, some dating back to the founding of Britain and others going all the way back to biblical times, Will discovers that with the Dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in his hands.
