Sam Raimi gives a Spider-Man 4 Update
10/16/2007

Just a few minutes ago Sam Raimi wrapped a press conference in Los Angeles where he talked about his involvement with the new movie “30 Days of Night.” In case you didn’t know, he executive produced the movie.

And while I’ll be posting a transcript soon of the 30 minute talk…I figured you’d want to know what he said about Spider-Man 4 and beyond right now.

During the press conference he said that they have had a number of screenwriters coming in and pitching ideas for the Spider-Man series….but nothing is figured out yet. Then I asked him since Spider-Man 4 was still far away from happening…would he consider directing something else in the meanwhile. He said he literally just wrapped the Spider-Man 3 DVD a few weeks ago and this was the first time he’s been unemployed for awhile and he’s loving it.

So I figured that was my story… but after the conference was over, Sam walked out at the same time as I did from the room and I continued asking questions.

I asked what the writers are pitching for Spider-Man 4…if it’s a trilogy or if it’s just one movie. He said some are coming in and pitching a trilogy and some are just pitching one movie.

I then asked if he would be more inclined to come back for one movie or would a new trilogy be the thing that got him back into another Spider-Man movie. He said it all depends on the story. If the story was strong enough he would come back for either a single film or a new trilogy.

Finally, I asked him if he was really not going to direct anything in the immediate future or was their going to be a surprise announcement in the coming days. He said that he is absolutely not directing anything right now and he’s very much enjoying his time with his family.

So there you have it. Sam looks like he’s waiting to find out what direction to go in…and it looks like it’s based on the story for the next Spider-Man film or films.

Look for a transcript soon.
