Will Ferrell’s SEMI PRO Movie Gets a Red Band Trailer

I’ll admit I was nervous when I first heard about “Semi-Pro,” the new Will Ferrell 70’s basketball movie. After all, he’s already done a few other sports type characters and I thought perhaps he was going back to the well a few too many times. Thankfully, I’m extremely happy to report that New Line Cinema has just released a red band trailer for the movie and it might be the best red band trailer I’ve ever seen. Seriously. Watch this clip and I dare you to not laugh out loud.

Now that you saw it… I think you’ll agree with me that the movie looks like the real deal…a great R-Rated comedy that isn’t afraid to use language or sex talk to make you laugh. In the film Will plays Jackie Moon, a one-hit wonder who used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song “Love Me Sexy” to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team. But Moon’s franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces its plans to merge with the NBA. If they want to survive, Jackie and the Tropics must now do the seemingly impossible – win.
Due to the last few years, with the successful R rated comedies that have been released like “Knocked Up” and “The 40-Year Old Virgin,” the studios have begun to see that even if a comedy is rated R, they can still make a lot of money. Therefore, I think we can expect a lot more comedies to push the boundaries and the studios won’t be afraid to let them.
