By now most of you have heard the rumblings about “There Will Be Blood.” Almost every critic, including me, is praising star Daniel-Day Lewis, as well as writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson. It’s almost a certainty that both will be nominated for Oscars, and in my opinion, they both might win. While you probably get tired of hearing how amazing Daniel Day-Lewis is as an actor, after his performance as Daniel Plainview in this movie… it’s not going to get any better. He absolutely immerses himself into the role, and in the words of this web writer, burns as brightly as anything I have ever seen on a movie screen.

If you don’t know what the movie is about….

“There Will Be Blood” is a sprawling epic about family, faith, power and oil. The film is set on the radical frontier of California’s turn-of-the-century petroleum boom.  The story chronicles the rise of one Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis), who transforms himself from a down-and-out silver miner raising a son on his own into a self-made oil tycoon.

When Plainview gets a mysterious tip that there’s a little town out West where an ocean of oil is oozing out of the ground, he heads with his son, H.W. (Dillon Freasier), to take their chances in dust-worn Little Boston.  In this hardscrabble town, where the main excitement centers around the holy roller church of charismatic preacher Eli Sunday (Paul Dano), Plainview and H.W. make their lucky strike.  But even as the well raises all of their fortunes, nothing will remain the same as conflicts escalate and every human value – love, hope, community, belief, ambition and even the bond between father and son – is imperiled by corruption, deception and the flow of oil.

There Will Be Blood is the fifth film from writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson (Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Hard Eight.) Anderson’s screenplay is loosely based upon the classic, 1920s muck-raking novel Oil! by Upton Sinclair. The film also has one of the best scores of the year and it’s by an unlikely composer…. Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood. Trust me, the score is like nothing you’ve ever heard and it’s great.

So to help promote the film, Paramount Vantage has provided me with 6 movie clips. And in case you never saw the trailer, I’ve also posted that as well.

“There Will Be Blood” has opened in two theaters – one in NYC and one in Los Angeles. It will be expanding in the coming weeks. Do not miss it.
