Jon Favreau Talks THE AVENGERS and IRON MAN

I just got back from the press conference for Vince Vaughn's new film, Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights - Hollywood to the Heartland. Because of his cameo in the film, Jon Favreau was in attendance and answered a couple questions about Iron Man and a potential, future film that some of you may care about - The Avengers. Enjoy!

Jon Favreau on Iron Man:

"We just locked picture on Iron Man, but locking a picture is different on this kind of movie because, every day, more shots come out of the oven, and you cut them in. It's a real treat for me because I'm used to only having dialogue, story, comedy, and characters with which to cut. Now, when new shots come in, every day is like Christmas morning; a new shot comes in and we cut it into the movie. [Through this process] You realize that these movies could survive without good actors or good stories because the shots are so fun and exciting (if they are done well), and the guys at ILM did spectacular work. The stuff with Robert, Gwyneth, and Jeff Bridges is just really great stuff. They always knew that it was going to be all about Iron Man flying and I never got pressure on the scenes and had a tremendous amount of freedom to tell the story in a way that I was comfortable with. So, in a way, it was really the most creative freedom that I can remember having... It works, and it is a very, very good movie... Though, people's expectations are changing because [people] are expecting an experience; they aren't expecting quality and can have a good time without having a great movie. If you can deliver a great movie on top of something that is fun to watch, then I think you can exceed expectations."

... on The Avengers:

"I'd love to, you know, if the experience is as good as this. Since The Avengers has The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man, they still have to make a few more movies. I think they would want to get a chapter in on each of the heroes before they combine them. But I think it is very smart that they are thinking of cross-pollinating between different characters... Now, because they control all of these different characters, there can be that sort of interplay between the movies and characters that gives it the spontaneous feeling of the books."
