The force is no longer with 20th Century Fox.
While the rumors have been online the past few weeks, tonight came the official announcement that George Lucas’ new "Star Wars" show "The Clone Wars" will premiere in theaters August 15th.
While getting a new "Star Wars" movie will probably make millions of fans happy, I wonder how they’ll feel when they find out they won’t be seeing a 20th Century Fox logo before the film starts.
While I don’t know the exact reason, it seems Warner Bros. will be distributing the 100 minute animated movie. Perhaps it has something to do with Cartoon Network landing the animated series, or perhaps they just offered more money. But whatever the reason, for the first time in history we won’t hear that famous opening score.
If you don’t know about the “Clone Wars” animated show yet, I’ve posted a short video explaining the series below. The quick info is that it takes place between episodes 2 and 3, before Anakin became evil.
I actually saw a preview of the show at Star Wars Celebration 4 and was quite impressed. The animation was great and it looked like Lucasfilm had spent a lot of money bringing this property to life.
The last info I'd heard about the series was that Lucasfilm planned to create 100 episodes. I’m not sure if they’ve worked out season arcs or if they’re self contained episodes. Whatever they end up doing, I’m sure many people will tune in and we'll find out soon.
For more info, here's what Variety had.
