Watch the first WATCHMEN Video Journal with Alex McDowell – The Production Designer

I cannot put into words how badly I want to see Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen” movie. Out of all the comic book movies in production or on the drawing boards, “Watchmen” is my number one and nothing else is even close to taking the top spot. And based on what I’m reading online and the emails I get, many of you are also just as excited as I am.
And why wouldn’t you be? The film is based on one of the greatest graphic novels of all time and it’s being directed by someone who has proven himself to be able to adapt a comic book for the big screen. For those who don’t know who I’m talking about…it’s Zack Snyder and he directed the kick-ass movie “300.”
In the next year Collider will be covering “Watchmen” a lot. Deal with it. I make no apology about how much I’m rooting for Zack to hit a home-run with the movie, and based on the early release of the costumes and now this great video blog that follows production designer Alex McDowell, my excitement grows with every passing day.
Since the video is a ComingSoon.net exclusive, you’ll have to click to watch. But I’ve grabbed a few screenshots from the video which you can see below.
The thing that makes me so happy is that they’ve built physical sets of a lot of the key locations in the movie. This isn’t the green screens of “300” again, the world of “Watchmen” was built…and that’s going to make the movie that much more real.
And one last thing....
To every person working in marketing or wondering how to properly promote a movie…what Warner Bros. is doing for “Watchmen” is perfect. Since the movie first got announced they’ve been extremely good at letting the fans know what’s going on. During filming, they made sure to have tons of online and print journalists on set to help promote the film before it comes out. Also, unlike some movies that try and keep everything secret, the filmmakers have been slowly releasing cool things like the costumes and now they’ve got a plan to release a new video blog every month till the movie comes out. The whole thing is a great plan and one that’s going to help “Watchmen” slowly burn into the public’s consciousness. That way when the movie comes out in March 2009, people will know about the film and be ready and excited.
Look at these sets. How can you not be smiling.
