The tag line for the upcoming Will Smith blockbuster is actually "There are heroes, there are superheroes and then there's Hancock." But hey, I liked mine better. After all, what does anyone know about Hancock? Nothing, that's what. People are going to go to the theatres this July because they love Will Smith movies.
The man can pick a project alright, and everything he touches (especially if it has a summer release date) seems to make a ton of money. After watching the "Hancock" trailer I have no reason to believe that this trend will be bucked any time soon. It's got a good director in Peter Berg ("Friday Night Lights"), some of that Will Smith sass on display and a nice role for Jason Bateman. What's not to like?
"Hancock" appears to steal a page from Brad Bird's "The Incredibles," with a superhero taken to task for the destruction he inadvertently causes while in the midst of derring do. The film premieres July 2, and although she is not featured in the trailer, Charlize Theron co-stars. I will not even pause before saying that this film is going to be insanely popular, and hey – couldn't happen to a nicer guy, right?
