Fox to ‘Reimagine’ DePalma's THE FURY

Is there any 70's horror classic that Hollywood doesn't want to do-over? Hell, no, is the obvious answer. OK, some horror remakes go badly – like "The Omen," but some make tons of money despite sucking, like "Prom Night."

So, in that spirit, 20th Century Fox has decided to go ahead with a new adaptation of the Brian DePalma classic "The Fury." The 1978 screamer starred Amy Irving as a teen with psychic powers that had the unfortunate side-effect of making people explode when she touched them – her part in "The Fury" is half the reason Steven Spielberg fell in love, I imagine.

Fox is calling their version of "The Fury" a modern "reimaging" of DePalma's original, which only means that the teen psychic is going to be a boy this time around. I guess Hollywood isn't Imagination Land after all. The writing team of Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman (best known for some awesome script no one would buy) has been tapped to do the reimagining.

Wish that DePalma had reimagined "The Black Dahlia" here.
