Mel Gibson lured to The EDGE OF DARKNESS

Six years after he was last seen in front of a camera, actor/director/bad press magnet Mel Gibson has agreed to star in the film "Edge of Darkness," an adaptation of a 1985 BBC miniseries. Directed by Martin ("Casino Royale") Campbell and adapted for the screen by William ("The Departed") Monahan, "Edge of Darkness" will mark the first time Gibson has acted since 2002's "We Were Soldiers."
"Darkness" casts Gibson as a squeaky-clean police investigator who is plunged into a world of government corruption and intrigue after his activist daughter is murdered. The TV original's six episodes mixed procedural thriller with a dash of science fiction and nuclear espionage, but twenty three years later there's no telling if fans of the miniseries will even be able to recognize the end product.
No matter. I'm actually just glad that Mel is getting back to acting. I know he has had to lay low for awhile after the 'unpleasantness' of his DUI arrest, but the man is clearly bored and craving some attention again. Why else would he invite Britney Spears to dinner? She digs kabbalah, last I heard.
Mel Gibson may indeed be bat-shit crazy and anti-Semitic and all of that, I'm not really sure - I usually just go along with whatever "South Park" tells me. Bad behavior aside though, I will admit that Mel has been pretty consistent about entertaining me in the past (a serious exception made here for "The Man Without a Face"). Even when his projects are kind of stupid ("What Women Want"), Gibson is almost always fun to watch onscreen and a project like "Edge of Darkness" that comes packed with so much talent seems like a good bet for his return to acting.
Twist Mel Gibson's Nipples here.
