David Silverman, long time director/executive producer of "The Simpsons" and director of last year's "The Simpson's Movie," has signed on to direct the family film "The Pet" for Walt Disney Studios.
Described as a live action, sci-fi adventure - "The Pet" centers on an average man who becomes a pet for a group of aliens. No word if Kang or Kodos have been approached to star.
While I am pretty sure that this is a theme that has already been thoroughly explored by Rod Serling in "The Twilight Zone," I am fan enough of Silverman's (he also co-directed Pixar's "Monsters Inc.") to believe that he could do something interesting with the premise, shackled though he may be by the "family film" format.
Just as long as Disney doesn't do something cheesy like try to stick those Jonas Brothers in the film or get Billy Ray Cyrus to star, everything will be cool.
Directions to Rigel VII here.
