Chris Wedge, director of 20th Century Fox's animated hit "Ice Age" has signed on to direct the children's adventure film "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" for Warner Brothers. The film is based on the best selling book by children's author/illustrator Brian Selznick (a distant cousin of David O, for those who are interested).
"Hugo Cabret" is the story of a Paris orphan who lives a clandestine life within the walls of a busy Paris train station. He fixes the stations clocks and gets caught up in a mystery when he attempts repairs on a mechanical man. That does sound like a mystery – like, what is a mechanical man doing in the walls of a Paris train station?
Wedge, who is currently in post-production on "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," will make his first major foray into live-action with "Hugo Cabret." The project is being adapted for the screen by "The Aviator" scribe John Logan and produced in partnership with Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil and GK Films. Production is set to begin sometime in the fall.
Wonder why orphans think they're so clever here.
