Juno Star Takes On Jane Eyre

Variety has the word that none other than go-to indie darling Ellen Page will play the titular Jane Eyre -- a British orphan mistreated by her adoptive family but who ends up forging her own path. I think by attending Hogwarts or something.

There's no director, but there's a script by Moira Buffini and BBC Films will produce with Alison Owen at the helm. Her past productions include English historo-dramas Elizabeth and The Other Boleyn Girl which are probably tonally on-par with this version of Eyre.

That said, way back in 1943, Jacques Tourneur loosely adapted Bronte's novel into I Walked With a Zombie and Owen did executive produce Shaun of the Dead. We can only dream...

To date, there have been about 20 different versions of Jane Eyre. I'll bet Charlotte Bronte is kicking herself for having died long before the limitations of modern copyright.
