One of the most popular games of last year is coming to the silver screen in a major way, courtesy of Universal and the man who made the world love Pirates again, Gore Verbinski. John Logan -- who writes every single movie that Hollywood releases -- is said to be attached to the screenplay.
BioShock's publisher, Take-Two Interactive, reportedly signed an epically large deal with Universal for the film rights and have precautions in effect to ensure that, unlike the ongoing development hell of Halo, BioShock will move right into development. Between this and the mega-success of their Grand Theft Auto IV, now is a good time to start asking your Take-Two pals if you can borrow money,
The story for the game takes place in an alternate reality's 1960 and features Jack, the survivor of a plane crash, who finds himself in an underwater city called Rapture whose socio-economic politics mirror Ayn Rand's Objectivist philosophies. But you also get to blow things up.
To date, BioShock has sold over 2 million copies and is being developed into a franchise with a sequel planned for sometime next year.
