One day I’ll get to Cannes. For a long time I never thought I’d make it to Sundance, but now that I’ve cracked that code I need a new dream…and it’s to one day spend a week in France watching movies at Cannes.

The fact is, if you’re a fan of movies going to a film festival is an amazing experience. Not only do you get to see a ton of movies early, but you get to share the experience with a ton of other movie lovers who are just as excited as you are to be there.

I’ve now been to Sundance twice and each time has been an amazing experience. Granted, some movies are better than others, but being surrounded by movies 24/7 is great – especially when you love movies as much as I do. Anyway, if you're like me, try to get to any festival near you. You’ll love it.

Now the reason you’re here.

Staring in just a few days is this year’s Cannes Film Festival. What that means is…we’re on the verge of finding out about a lot of big projects from many big name filmmakers. Cannes is one of the big events for upcoming movies, and a big showing at Cannes usually means a film is worth seeing.

While there aren’t many Hollywood movie premieres at this year’s Festival, they’re still showing a ton of things we’ll all want to see. From Woody Allen’s “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” to Fernando Meirelles “Blindness,” I cannot wait to hear how they turned out.

And one of the biggest films premiering at this year’s Festival is also the longest – how about 4 hours and 28 minutes!

The film’s called “Che” and it’s about Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara. And playing the title character is one of the best actor’s working today – Benecio Del Toro.

The movie is directed by Steven Soderbergh and when it gets released later this year it’ll be in two parts – part one is going to be called “The Argentine” and part two is “Che.” However, when it plays at Cannes it’s playing in its entirety at one showing. Of course there will be a break, but it won't be a long one.

Also, instead of listing each movie by the title it’ll be released by, the Cannes program has part one and part two under the title of “Che.”

Here’s actually what was given out to the press:

PART ONE

On November 26, 1956, Fidel Castro sails to Cuba with eighty rebels. One of those rebels is Ernesto "Che" Guevara, an Argentine doctor who shares a common goal with Fidel Castro - to overthrow the corrupt dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Che proves indispensable as a fighter, and quickly grasps the art of guerrilla warfare. As he throws himself into the struggle, Che is embraced by his comrades and the Cuban people. This film tracks Che’s rise in the Cuban Revolution, from doctor to commander to revolutionary hero.

PART TWO
After the Cuban Revolution, Che is at the height of his fame and power. Then he disappears, re-emerging incognito in Bolivia, where he organizes a small group of Cuban comrades and Bolivian recruits to start the great Latin American Revolution. The story of the Bolivian campaign is a tale of tenacity, sacrifice, idealism, and of guerrilla warfare that ultimately fails, bringing Che to his death. Through this story, we come to understand how Che remains a symbol of idealism and heroism that lives in the hearts of people around the world.

While many wondered if Steven Soderbergh was going to be able to finish both parts in time for the festival, it seems like he made it happen and on May 21st he’s showing the film to I'm sure a packed auditorium. Personally, I cannot wait to see the movie as Che’s life is fascinating and I’m sure it’ll be a great film.

Anyway, I’ve landed a few new images from the movie and they’re below. As you can see, Benicio really looks the part.

In the coming weeks, expect to find out what worked at Cannes and what was a dud. Until then….
