Daniel Day Lewis in for Javier Bardem in NINE?

Daniel Day Lewis is in talks to star in the adaptation of the musical "Nine," according to Variety. The Weinstein Company project was set to star "No Country for Old Men" Oscar boy Javier Bardem, until he dropped out of the production last month saying he was just too "exhausted" from award's season. Yeah, I can see how being heaped with praise and adoration could really tucker a guy out.

Two time Academy Award winner Daniel Day Lewis was similarly lauded during this year's award's extravaganza, yet he still seems alert enough to pick up the role that Bardem dropped. Day Lewis would play Guido Contini in "Nine," the musical adaptation of the Feklini film "8 1/2." At first I wondered if Daniel Day Lewis could sing - then I realized that if the man could make a milkshake seem menacing, he could probably do anything.

"Nine" centers on a famous Italian film director who must juggle the needs of various women during his own mid-life crisis - and all through the magic of song, naturally. The female roles in "Nine" are set, with fellow Oscar winners Nicole Kidman, Judi Densch and Marion Cotiliard all signed on. The film will be directed by "Chicago" helmer Rob Marshall for release sometime in 2009.

This is a big prestige film for the Weinstein - chock full of Oscar winners with a screenplay draft by the late Anthony Minghella, so look for the studio to work hard to bring Daniel Day on board - well rested or not.

Donate one hour of sleep a night to Javier Bardem here.
