I'd be excited to hear that Joe Dante was directing traffic and then find some way to be first in line for a ticket. So to hear that he'll be taking on Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan's "Bat out of Hell" fills me good feelings. I mean "Dante" and "Hell" have been two great tastes that taste great together for over 700 years.
Parallel Zide will team with VooDoo productions for the script which features a hi-jacked flight and mysterious, monstrous cargo.
McWeeny and Swan also wrote John Carpenter's two Masters of Horror episodes, "Cigarette Burns," and "Pro-Life."
You might recognize McWeeny's name as the man-behind-the handle for Moriarty over at Ain't It Cool News.
Joe Dante -- apart from making genre gems like "Gremlins", "Piranha" and "The Howling" -- recently hosted a screening series at The New Beverly (quickly becoming the LA hotspot for all things film-related). One of his choices was the Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing flick "Horror Express", which features a thawed-out caveman wrecking havoc on a train. I can't wait to see what kind of monster he can give us at 20,000 feet.
