"Superbad" star Jonah Hill is in talks to adapt the Fox TV classic "21 Jump Street" into a feature film for Columbia Pictures. He would develop the project as a potential starring vehicle as well serving as executive producer.

Now I get why "Transformers 2" was suddenly not as attractive a prospect for Jonah. He's got bigger, um, hills to climb.

"Jump Street" aired on Fox from 1987 to 1991 and helped establish the then new born network as the hippest non-cable spot on the dial. It also happened to star some ridiculously good-looking guy named Johnny Depp – I wonder what ever happened to him. Of course Depp ended up leaving the show only to be replaced by Richard Grieco – and if you know what happened to him, please keep it to yourself.

A "21 Jump Street" film was in the works a few years back with original series creator Stephen J Cannell handling the screenplay. I think everyone can breathe a sigh of relief that it never got off the ground – TV show to movie remakes are almost always gut wrenchingly bad – "Bewitched" I'm talking to you. Jonah Hill is not only a funny guy, he's also got the good taste to hang with talented writers and producers like Judd Apatow – I'm sure he can make the jump back to "Jump Street" a not entirely awful process. The eighties hair alone should be worth a few laughs.

Peter Deluise is on the phone with his agent here.
