The teaser trailer for Universal's "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" debuted online Friday morning. Seven years after we last heard from explorer/mummy-phobe Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser), the "Mummy" franchise is back for its third installment and due in theatres August first.
Having previously exhausted Egypt's supply of evil sorcerers, "Tomb of the Dragon" finds Rick raising the dead in China – and yes, they do have mummies in China, or at least spooky burial statues that come to life. Do they count?
The trailer for "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon" looks pretty good, but of course nothing is going to beat the first "Mummy" movie for its CGI visual impact. Remember when that face in the sand was, like, the coolest thing you ever saw?
Director Rob Cohen ("xXx", "The Fast and the Furious") has taken over for Stephen Sommers and his approach seems to be to copy everything from Zhang Yimou's "Hero." You've got Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh in major roles and even a shot of the sky blackened by the approach of thousands of arrows – sound familiar?
What won't seem familiar is the face of Rick O'Connell's wife Evelyn. She used to look a lot like Rachel Weisz – now she looks more like Maria Bello with dyed hair. Brother Jonathan is back though, and Rick's son is all grown up and ready to fight the evil Chinese empire – I mean emperor.

Collider video or audio content ... very cool stuff
